thyroid cyst

Anyone have experience with thyroid cysts and can recommend a specialist.

My helper has a large cyst in the neck region and we took her for a thyroid ultrasound and blood test. Due to the size of the cyst, the doctor has recommended fine needle aspiration and said surgery would be necessary to remove it.

I've been given a referral to both private specialist and the public hospital, but would be grateful for any further recommendations or information.

My helper is reluctant to go for further testing and will need some convincing.

I actually have had one for over a year now and just had it scanned again recently now that I've relocated to HK. To me it seems like your helper is getting a lot more attention than I ever got about mine (even though I've always had good insurance)! I've only ever seen GPs, who have never referred me to a specialist. This is partly because it hasn't changed much in size, so I simply have to get an ultrasound on it every couple of months.
I'm sure your doctor's recommendations are reliable enough, no?
 
If you are looking for a private one dr Ma in Central building is very very good. The visit costs around 800 I think but maybe double check.He is very popular and effective. Mant thyroid problems are related to extreme tiredness, lethargy and weight gain and loss. I think worth checking out epecially that it is large.I have small cysts and they are related to underactive thyroid so i just have to take drugs.Check your helper's insurance and see if it covers it if not you can follow up in a public hospital-they will be just as good if maybe a bit slower.
 
Sorry, forgot to update this thread but helper is safe and well now.

At first, we registered at the public hospital for the fine needle aspiration biopsy but found there is a long waitlist and the earliest they could see her was Dec 2013. Obviously we couldn't wait that long in case the cyst turned out to be cancerous, so we went to a doctor recommended by our GP to perform the biopsy and fortunately the results came back clear.
