Thick foam/rubber play mat?

I bought the foam tiles that click together but was only using them for a small space and not an entire room. I bought mine from Eugene Club but have seen them at Toys R Us and Bumps 2 Babes.

There are a number of homeware shops which sells good quality playmats - these are sold at various local homeware stores and certain kids stores (i.e. those which sell japanese kids stuff). I bought a really good quality one (not the foam type you put toegther but one which you need to roll up) made in Korea, and its so soft my son now prefers to sleep on it ( plus its quite cool to sleep on in the summer). its not that cheap - it was almost $ 670 but now looking back I think it was well worth it. Usually these mats have disney or thomas designs on them ( so they can sell them for more) . But do look around. I live on kowloon side now ,so I can tell you where you can buy them near kowloon tong but I'm not so sure for HK side, but I am sure they are out there.

Is there anywhere to get the higher quality Korean made playmats that are one big piece versus the interlocking pieces? We have dust mite allergies, and I have heard that the playmats with the interlocking pieces have tons of dust mites hiding in the nooks and crannies.

LG Parklon playmats

I ordered a Korean one from here and am loving it !

Picasa Web Albums - worldofkorea

the company is in Singapore. delivery charges are quite high though - i ordered with another mom to share costs.

Honestly, these mats are the best. I'd looked around everywhere to find a good mat and was so glad to come across these guys. They're not cheap but trust me, they're worth it. You can use it as baby carpet even after the crawling stage.

(BabyBoom only has smaller ones in stock and don't look as good as these. One shop in Aberdeen has some Korean mats but they looked a little flimsy compared to the one I have. A shop in Shamshuipo sells LG Parklon mats but charge a fortune!)

I put mine on top of our regular carpet in the living room. you can choose thickness and size. i really recommend them. they look great, easy to clean, reversible and really comfy to lye on too! (for baby and me both : )

Last week we bought a pretty good Korean mat (roll-up, one piece, thick, with a non-slip backing) from a toy store on the 5th floor of Great Century Place (mall connected to KCR Mongkok East station). Pretty decent quality, 1.8m x 1.4m, HKD500. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the store, but the mall isn't that big so it shouldn't be hard to find, the mats were on display standing at the entry to the store. They also sold 2m x 1m Thomas roll-up foam mats for under HKD200. The 5th floor of Great Century Place is full of stores for babies/kids (clothes, toys, books, games, strollers, maternity goods etc.)

There's another place at Olympian city 2 that sells the mat. its around $500 i recalled. Cant remember the name but its a stationary shop beside Popular bookstore.

for the World of Korea or small small world websites, they are based in Singapore. Pricing is higher if you include shipment (quite heavy depending on size and thickness). Helps if you know someone travelling to Singapore and can check in for the flight. I know a wholesaler. let me know if you need the contact.

Thanks!

A few weeks ago I got a one piece rollup mat from Pricerite at Olympian City, around $350. It has pics of different types of transport (car, boat, plane etc) and the Japanese words for them on it. They also have a teddy bear design.

I was able to find one at pricerite too, but not the children's foam mats, it's a black/grayish color, with foam mat under, used for outdoor or indoor, looks presentable at it's plain color.

have anyone bought foam mats from Gymboree? We are taking classes there and have play on that mat. It seems easy to clean and soft.

We have the puzzle type of fome mat from Toys R us. never thought it would hind dust mite before reading this post.

i just bought a roll up korean mat from japan home store this weekend in causeway bay above the watsons. it's got cute thomas the tank engine designs. 1.3m X 2m for 130 hkd.

You want really cheap and comfortable mats for babies? There's alot in Japan Home houseware store if you're not really picky for only 90$ and some are really cheaper.

hi vivlim,

the korean ones u r thinking of are made by LG Parklon and/or LG Hausys. I got mine at Jusco at Taikoo. You can find them at the homeware section; near the bed linen section.
