Last night's topic on TVB Pearl's The Pearl Report was "The 21st Century Baby" which covers recent early development and parenting practices in Hong Kong.

There will be a re-run at 0:55am on Tuesday night on Sept 18th (just past midnight tonight!), and at 12:15noon on Saturday Sept 22nd.

Quite an interesting report. It covered 1) right mind learning, 2) baby signing, 3) home education, 4) no formal learning prior to X age...

It interviewed advocates of each of the above and also interviewed child development experts to get a more objective view.

Yeah I saw it, and while Pearl hardly provides the best journalism in the world, it was quite interesting!

It reinforced my opinion that so many of these baby classes are nothing but money making ventures and that babies do just as well without formal classes and are fine with informal playgroups, trips to the park and playground and a variety of different situations and places, and all the love, attention and time parents can give!

It also reconfirms my decision not to overload my child and that playing and going out experiencing new things is the best way to learn.
