Tests first three months

Dears,

I'd like to know what kind of tests are required/recommended the first three months of pregnancy. What about pre-conception?

Thank you.

Hi,

I had a thorough gynecological check up just before we started trying to concieve, which included a pap smear.

At 8 weeks pregnant I had a scan to ensure pregnancy wasn't etopic. (As well as urine test to confirm the pregnancy)
Another scan at 10 weeks.
Then at 12 weeks I had a blood test ( tests for hepatitus, syphillius, your blood type, RHD factor and now in HK all pregnant women and those using a hospital need to have an HIV test); as well as a urine test to check for diabetes.
At 13 weeks I had a specialist scan and blood test to check for down's syndrome. This is called Nuchal transluency test.

Hope that helps! I think that when exactly you have each test will depend on your Doctor- I have a private Doctor, but I think it might be a little different if you attend a government clinic (i.e. they will only do nuchal transluency test if you are over 35).

Thanks a lot for this info! That's a lot of tests...
I'd better start checking for doctors and get a gynecological check up! I normally do an annual check up... but it is probably a good idea to have one done now.
Thanks again!
