Terminating Helper - Return Passage Ticket

Hi all,

Looking for advice on return ticket for my helper that I will be terminating at the end of Dec.

Say the last day of work will be Dec 30, she is legally allowed to stay in HK until Jan 13th. When I'm preparing her termination papers, should I just book a return ticket for the 13th?

Secondly, how would I pay her vacation allowance. She would be entitled to 4 days paid vacation.

Thank you for any input!

Hi,

You can give her cash for the ticket. Just go online on Cebu Pacific and check how much a 1 way ticket is to her home town on Jan 13th. Print out the fare and give her a copy.

There's a sample termination receipt in the FDH guide Pg 34.

http://www.labour.gov.hk/eng/public/wcp/FDHguide.pdf

Print it out and get her to sign it.

Give her cash for the 4 days annual leave.

Thanks very much for the return passage, that's perfect!
Sorry I should have been more specific about the vacation and sorry if this sounds stupid...

Question is how do I calculate 4 days (which is a little more than what we owe her)?

Is it based on 24days/month worked or based on 30 days per month? Because each month is a little bit different I suppose.... December would be 27 days, November is 24 days, October is 27 etc.....

IE; I pay $4200 monthly salary, each day (assuming 24 days) being $175/day, which means I should pay $700?

Thanks very much. And sorry one last question. The guide says for terminating that we ow
"any other sum due to the helper in respect of the employment
contract, e.g. free return passage and food and travelling allowance
(see Chapter 11).

Is "FOOD & TRAVELLING ALLOWANCE" covered in the $100 per day which means we do not need to pay the $964 monthly food allowance on top of the salary correct?

Yes $100/day is the food /travel allowance to reach her home. You don't need to give her the monthly food allowance.
