I had a helper that was constantly stealing from me and lying to me. She actually stole money out of our wallets when we were home but not in the same room as our wallets. I've terminated her and based on reading the employment contracts it said that I could terminate her without notice or 1 month pay if I had due cause. In my book, stealing is due cause. Unfortunately we were never able to catch on stealing on camera or anything. We just knew because we started keeping track of exactly how much money was in our wallets.
Now she's brought a case against us with the labor department to file for 1 month pay, as well as ticket back to Philippines. I really feel that we should not have to pay this since she's stolen thousands of dollars from us and only worked for us for 4 months.
Has anyone here had past experience with this? Do you have advice on how to best proceed?
