Taking Helper to UK and Europe

We are intending to bring our Indonesian helper to US and Europe this August. Does anyone know how long the process would take and when I should start applying for a visa? ANY information would be much appreciated.

To get a visa for the UK your helper will have had to work for you for at least one year.

The UK visa decision should be fairly quick assuming you have provided all of the required info. She will more than likely have to attend an interview at the British Consulate. Check out the following website (may be down at the moment due): http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/

Thanks sky123 and CelticKiwi. The weblink is down at the moment but will check it out. Does anyone know whether the consulate will give waivers for the one year rule? By August, our helper would have only worked for us for 9 months.

I have heard the UK consulate are really strict about visas; if helpers have been with you less than a year then it is no to a working visa; apparently there is a chance they could get a tourist visa, but if they are unmarried and under 30 apparently it is very difficult.
I have also heard France is strict but don't know the rules. I don't think Italy or Switzerland have a period of time requirement.
It seems you just have to apply and see what happens - no money back if it fails....

There is no discretion. The UK are very strict with this rule. Your helper will not be able to go.
