Taking baby swimming & water temperature

Hi,

I would like to take my 7-week old baby to the swimming pool in our apartment complex but I read somewhere that the water temperature must be about 32 C to keep baby warm enough. The water temp. in our (indoor) pool is maintained at 27 C. Will this be too cold for my baby?
I've bought a baby wetsuit (it covers just the body - not arms & legs). Will this be sufficient to keep him warm?

Any advice appreciated!

Tks,
Eva

Hi. We dunked our bub, skin only ;-) no wetsuit, no diaper, no baby speedo, into the water at Shelley Beach (Manly) when he was about 4 weeks old. It was definitely less than 27 degrees as it was mid April. He coped but he's never been too fussed about cooler temperatures.

If you are worried, why don't you try it at home in the bathtub first (if you have a bath time thermometer) and see how it goes?

Thanks Spockey - that's reassuring to hear,

I'll try the bath first to check. My little boy is quite chubby so I think he should have plenty of insulation for cooler temperatures in any case!!

:thanks

27 is well below body temperature, so he is bound to get cold eventually. Isn't like he will be swimming laps to keep warm.
Doubt it is harmful, though.
