Swimming ok for eczema toddler?

Want to bring my girl into the clubhouse chlorinated pool and clearwater bay beach. She has severe eczema and her skin is extremely sensitive. Good or bad idea?

Read somewhere that it is ok so long as I douse her in thick layer of moisturiser before hitting the water. What do you think? Any preparatory steps I should take?

Can one be allergic to sand??????
 
i wouldn't risk the chlorinated pool. my daughter had ezcema. and she used to scratch herself crazy on the the legs & bump area. since we install the chlorine filter in her bathtub, she doesn't scratch anymore.

sand is ok. if the sea is clean where you'll bring her to, sea is a better choice. but if she's got broken skin, it might hurt?
 
I took my eczema baby to the beach for the first time Sunday. Didn't swim only soaked his legs in the water for a few times (just to test his reaction as also fear the water would make his eczema worse). He seems to be ok, no irritation or redness afterwards. I put sunscreen on his face and limbs. When we got home 2 hours later I noticed a few new red spots -- don't know if it's the sun or the sunscreen.

I had very bad eczema for most of my life and found swimming very drying on my skin. Being in the sea will be much better than the chlorinated pools and I guess you just have to give it a go and see how your daughter gets on.

If your baby tolerates vaseline well, good to coat in a thick layer before putting into pool or sea. Hope you have a nice time!
 
Thanks everyone. Sunrays, glad to see your reply. Will definitely make it for beach and cross our fingers for sunshine and fresh air. Snagito, you bet I am gonna enjoy it as much as my daughter!!! Just no rash plez.....

long time no see!
My elder son had eczema and he used to get rashes after playing with sand. So we had to stop taking him to the beach for a few years. Now he is fine, but he still gets rashes if he sweats too much. As for swimming, it had never been a problem for his eczema. It was heartbreaking when we had to say no to all beach playdates!!
 
Just to update everybody that we had a great time at the beach and NO RASH ON LITTLE J !!! Truly made my day. Believe it nor not, it was myself who reacted slightly to the sand. Never did before but perhaps it is HK sand??

Little J was real scared of the sand texture though: she had both hands wrapped firmly on my neck and would only touched the sand inside her bucket. She did enjoy the waves hitting her ankles.

Beach days are going to be regular activity times from now on.
