Swimming in the sea

Next month we plan to take our son, who will be five months, swimming in the swimming pool.

Assuming all goes well, and he enjoys it we were wondering when he could go in the sea.

I would never take him in the sea in HK (way too dirty!) but in April we will be somewhere where the sea is very warm and very clean; our baby will be six months- is this too young to swim in the sea?

My Mum said I first went in the sea at four months, but a midwife friend recently told her that this was too young and to wait until 12 months!

Anyone taken their baby swimming in the sea before then?

Thks.

I took my son into the sea in Australia when he was 4 mths.
I don't see how it's different to a pool, the only factor was the water temp.
The first time we tried it the water was abit cold and he didn't like it.
The next time it was much better and he loved it.

Great- thanks, I was also thinking about it and didn't see why sea was any different from the pool. Really looking forward to taking baby for first dip!

My son went in the sea in HK at 6 months. He's survived so far...bit of a waste living by the sea if youu don't let your kids in it - the water is no worse than the air anyway...

Maybe not but I still can't bring myself to take baby swimming in the sea here; last time I swam in the sea in HK I ended up with a red rash that the Dr said was caused by whatever was polluting the water, so not going to risk it with my little one! Fortunetly we travel every couple of months to my husbands hme country where the sea is clean so baby will still be able to experience the sea there.

Pregnancy Swimming Classes in Central

Hey,

My name is Sophie. I am 13 weeks pregnant and I really feel like doing some pregnancy swimming classes. Do any of you know where you can do that around central?

If you have any information please email me back on [email protected]

Thanks so much.

Sophie

My son went to the Australian sea at 9 months and had a problem or two.
Firstly, he didn't like sand. He was sort of walking at the time and the sand giving way under his feet scared him.
Secondly, we brought him to the edge of the ocean where the waves were lapping, put him in (not alone) and a larger wave came and scared him.
Strictly a pool baby after that. Hoping he has recovered in time for a trip to Bali in June.

i took my boy to the beach the first time when he was 6 months. He was really curious and got all excited when his feet touched the water, then came a wave and he started crying. He is now 8 months and we will take him to the beach again. Hope he likes it this time.
