Hello,
I am looking for a Orthotist, cranial doctor, or specialist who works with Infant Helmets for Plagiocephaly (flattened head syndrome). I know there are a few Osteopaths here in Hong Kong but I don't want to do the message therapy. My baby was premature and absolutely hated tummy time thus his head (almost 5 months now) is extremely flat, lopsided and even a bit bulging in the front! I NEED THAT HELMET for my poor little guy!! If anyone knows a doctor that does these Infant helmets here in Hong Kong, please refer me!! Thank you.

i know you said you don't want to try massage, but i have a friend who adopted a baby here. when they took him home he was 4 months old. his head was much as you describe your baby's head to be. they took him to a cranial massage therapist (i don't have the name) but it worked wonders and their boy, now 3 years old has a perfectly shaped head.

good luck! i hope you find what you are looking for!

hi ,
my baby was born premature too and has the eaxact problem of the flattened head. If you do find any massage therapist or a docotor for the helmets pleeeeease lemme know too.Thank you.

Try Caroline at Body Group in Pottinger Street, 2167 7305. She's a craniosacral therapist. She worked on two of my children. They didn't have flat heads, but she's excellent at manipulated the skull. My paediatrician referred me to her, so she's well known in this field. As for helmets, sorry I can't help there, but Caroline will know, I'm sure.

I agree, a craniosacral therapist is the one who will help you, I don't believe a helmet will. The head is already mishaped and the helmet won't make it go back. My daughter's head was flat on one side and bulged on the other. We went to Veronique at the Vitality Centre in Central. She did help. We have also been taking her to a Chinese bone setter in Sai Kung since she was 7 months old and he REALLY sorted things out, not just her head.

Hello ladypilot, Our daughter has a very similar condition as your son. We are planning on visiting Caroline as recommended by the people who replied to your post. I wanted to ask whether you tried Caroline & wanted to ask what the outcome was for your son's condition. Thank you very much!

We got treatment from Charoline for our daughters flat head (Spend a lot of money too since our insurance didnt cover it). The results weren't amazing to be honest. My daughter was 5 months old when we started the treatment and Charoline told us it was too late but still she could try. After 2 months of treatment my daughter's head was only 25% better. I asked her about this and Charoline told me that the shape would continue to change even after the treatment was over. BUT THAT DID NOT HAPPEN AT ALL. My daughter is 10 months old and everyone still points out at my daughter's flat head hence it is still visibly flat. You can PM me if you need any more info on the treatment that was administered on my baby.

Hi,

does caroline and veronique does therapy for infant with torticollis as well? my girl is 4.5months now and is doing physio everyday but as she is getting bigger, she resisted us more and more each day thus i'm desperately looking for treatment here.

I need therapies whom worked with infant as i had have therapies whom have not much ideal on working with infant, the crying and pain is absolutely unnecessary and i've lost alot of precious time on helping her on the recovery track previously.

thank you

My baby had very mild torticollis and a flat head and Caroline at the body group successfully worked out both when she was 7+ months old (were mild versions of both conditions though). She's was a big baby at the time of treatment, but I found that she reacted well to Caroline's technique and could sit for shorter length sessions (30 mins) done sitting in front of a video or with lots of toys.

Hmmm... well, i guess that's the least i could help my child with for now.

I don't want her to blame me for not doing anything about her flat head in the future.."laughs.. i guess we all been thru the teenage stages where we blame anybody for everything"

could any of the mums whom have tried either caroline or veronique share an idea of how much is their treatment?

thank you

Hi everyone,
I am about to adopt a nine month old baby with a flat head and I am curious to know if anyone has any results with Caroline or Veronique's ( or any other other specialist) with an older toddler. I am also curious about costs and length of time for this treatment.

Thanks,
coastal

i recently had my baby treated by an osteopath at OT and P and the results were ok, but not great. i decided to use Caroline or Veronique and found that many other mums recommended Caroline because of her many years of training and experience, also Veronique is no longer in town.
Caroline immediately spotted a crooked lower spine that made her bum crack (for lack of a better word) really crooked. Caroline explained that this had to be aligned before the head could be shaped. After 4 treatments, there is about a 75% improvement on the spine and 70% improvement on the head. I think it helped that she is only 5 months old and I didn't wait for her to "grow out of it".

Hi All - my baby has a fairly mild case of flat head and I'm going to call Caroline as recommended by the posters here.

Just wondering if anyone has any feedback/updated info on this subject as it's an older thread?

Thanks very much.

Hi,
this is an old thread but my Baby in sai kung is 4 months old, has the same thing, a flat head-
any suggestions????

any people have experience of a chinese bone setter in sai Kung?
anyone in HK using a helmet for this condition??

thanks

In my opinion "Just let it be". It will get better with age but never be perfectly round. Helmet is not available in HK as far as I know and its not very easy on the baby either as it has to be worn for 23 hours for at least a few months up to two and half years. Physiotherapy doesn't prove beneficial in all cases (Didn't help my daughter the least bit), don't know about chinese bone setting.
Try repositioning the babies head, don't let him/ her sleep on her back at all times. This will definitely help!!!

hello ladies,
Our grannies would always say to prevent the baby from having a flat head...one should put the head on a round pillow for the first few months since babies spend so much time sleeping on their back...and with both my boys my mom had got me the round pillow and it really helped make the head round....and also my helper taught me how to massage the baby's head as how they (the midwives) would do it in their village.

the pillow is like a ring and sometime back i'd seen it in rapee living stores.
my son is eight months now and i don't need the pillow.i can pass it on..just pm me...

helper would massage the head as if you pressing a play dough softly... using both hands....one on the top of the head and the other on the chin..press softly for few seconds everyday...

if you want to rule out any other cause of the flat head you can have it checked from the names given in the thread
