Hi all,

LO is turning 6 months next week and we will start feeding her rice cereal and other solids.... Just wondering if you sterilizing their solid food eating equipment and if so how long do you do it until you stop? Thanks!!!!

by 6 m your little one is likely crawling and putting hands into the mouth. there is no need to sterilise anything......

i didn't sterilize the solid food eating equipment, but i did sterilize baby bottles till baby was 1...now that you ask I dont know the logic (or perhaps lack of) but I had the bottle sterilizer handy and just continued to use it...

we rinse them with hot/cooked water before use, so little one is not eating uncooked water. also, there are cockroaches roaming around in the cupboards at night.... But we were not too religious about it.

It is said that the germs that can grow out of milk is particularly nasty and therefore bottles should be sterilised for as long as they are used... And then my friend said, but the bowls and soups have milk touching it too so why not sterilise them also? And I did not know how to answer....

By the way, my LO doesn't look like she will be crawling soon although everything in her hands do go into her mouth!!!!

Maybe rinsing in hot water is a good option too, thanks!!!

We just washed the bottles in hot soapy water after each use, just like we do for our own cups and plates. A bottle brush to clean inside the bottle and teat was a cheap and useful way to achieve a good clean.
