Need some advice from travel savy mommies out there. I am planning a trip to the UK with my son who will be 21 months old when we make the trip. I will be there for 10 nights over christmas staying in hotels thus will not have access to many home comforts. How do you clean the bottles when you travel, should i bring my own sterilizer. It is rather big... do i still need to sterilize bottles when my son is already over 1 yr? will be greatful for any advice. By the way how much do you pack when you travel? Many thanks in advance.

I don't think you need to sterilise bottles after 1 year, thats all I was going to do it up to, my son is only 9 months. But for travelling I use the Milton Sterilising tablets. You just need a large enough plastic container. Or you could ring the hotel to see if they supply sterilisers, not all hotels do but I did find one that did. If you can get hold of a microwave you can also take Medala sterilising bags, which hold one bottle and all the parts, takes around 3 min in the microwave.

We have found hotels in the U.S. and Asia remarkably accommodating and I expect European hotels would be as well. When we travel we call ahead and so far hotels have been able to provide either a sterilizer or a microwave (for which you can use the microwave sterilizer bags available at B2B, Eugene, etc.). You could also look into buying a travel sterilizer but we have found no need to do so yet. Good luck!

I don't think u need to sterilise the bottle after one year old. Or if you really want to can get some milton tablets.

actually my pediatrician (american) has said if you can sterilize, you should.

of course the kids put i am sure much worse in their mouths which we have no clue about it, but my son at 21 months still has his milk in his bottle 3 times a day and a pacifier for his night sleep. we still sterilize it all and why not? it's so easy if you've already got the stuff and you've already been doing it. that's not say i haven't when we've traveled for 2 nights and it doesn't seem worth it to bring all of the stuff over in our bags.

Bring or buy gallon Ziplock bags and Milton sterilization tablets. I just fill the bags up with water and drop a tablet and the items in!
Also bought some Playtex drop-ins for travel - VERY useful as you only have to sterilize the nipples.
