Is my helper entitled to take the statutory holiday if she has not completed 3 months of service? I read the Employment Ordinance but I'm not too sure.... my friend said no, but my new helper took Mon 10/2 off. And this Sat 10/7 is another statutory holiday. She has been with me for about a month.

You are not obligated to give your helper non-statutory holidays until she has completed 3 months of service. Your choice.

I wonder if you and your husband would feel good about working for three months without a break?
When are people in Hong Kong going ot realise that helpers are paid employees - not slave labour?

I could be wrong, but I thought that statutory holidys, by thier very nature, were holidays in which employers are required by law to give an employee the day off?

At the moment I can't find the link but she is entitled to the statutory holidays. As she's been working for you for less than 3 mths, it would be unpaid leave. However, it's upto to you whether you want to pay her or not.
