My LO is 7 weeks old. Like all newborns, she jumps when there is a loud sound or when I pat her after a feed and I never thought anything of it until the confinement nanny said this should go away by 2-3 weeks and brought it up to the pediatrician at our one month check up. She didn't even mention this to me beforehand but the ped said to observe for another month and it might be an "imbalance of calcium or sodium" or something to that effect. Now I am worried. I always thought this is the startle / moro reflex that is very common in newborns and will eventually subside in a few months. What's this about calcium and sodium imbalance?! He didn't really elaborate, just said its not a case for concern yet and we will discuss this at our 2nd month health check if this is still happening. She still jumps and jerks whenever I pat her hard or when there is a loud noise. She even startled herself when she had the hiccups this evening.
Any advise?
