Specialist for allergy test

Hi ladies~

Would anyone be able to recommend me a specialist for allergy testing on HK Island? (Daft statement but will our normal doctor be able to take this blood test or is it more advisable to see a specialist?) My 15mths old daughter has recently started getting these rashes & am thinking of bringing her for an allergy test.

Thanks!!

appreciate the prompt replies!

putput> was it a blood test that Dr Wu did? what is the procedure like & what's his cost for consultation? thankz again! :D

I would go with Adrian Wu. He does a 'scratch' test for allergies -so no drawing of blood; costs about $800 (I think) and you can get the results within a few minutes. Best to call the clinic to check fees.

Yes, he does a scratch test. He charges a set amount for a certain number of allergy tests/scratches and then extra per additional test. He told me that there were certain things babies are highly unlikely to be allergic to and then when we seemed unsure as to whether or not to get her tested for these things, eg.chilli, garlic, he tested her for them. The bill was obviously alot higher, the discomfort to my daughter alot greater, the guilt greater for us knowing our daughter could've coped with a few scratches but we were subjecting her to more than necessary! I'd suggest going with Dr Wu's views on what a child is more likely to be allergic to rather than doing what we did and getting her tested for unnecessary things! Turned out our little one is allergic to egg and soy which was passing to her through my breastmilk so I'm really glad we did the test.

Looking for Allergy Testing as well

My sister went with HKBioTek. They do about 3-6 drops of blood from the finger to test 96 types of foods (you can pick either Western or Asian foods) but that test is IGG (meaning, it's delayed reaction) - cost is $2300. The immediate reaction type of test IGE is where they take 13mL of blood sample to test immediate reactions of 96 types of foods, cost is $3500 HKD.

The only problem is that I'd want my daughter to do the immediate one with added inhalant allergies - total cost is $5500 HKD - however their lab is in Mong Kok (which I never venture to) and can't imagine going there on a weekend with my 2 kids.

I'm looking for a lab on the HK Side - does anyone know of one where they can do a comprehensive test for children (3+).

Any information would be helpful! Thanks!

Dr. Lynn Lim at OT&P does the test with HK Bio Tek. Her contact details are:-

At what age can babies do allergy tests? My little one is only 10 weeks old but has been getting a rash on his face. I'm wondering if it is the heat or something I am eating as I breastfeed. Thanks.

Allergy Tests

Thanks for the responses. In the end, I've booked an appointment with HKBioTek Ltd (Fortress Hill office). We will be going to their Mong Kok lab afterall because that's where Dr. Lim sends her patients too anyways.

It will be a painful 8 mL of blood drawn, but with a quite comprehensive set of results, I hope it's worth it. Will let you know what happens this Saturday.

Thanks again.
