Hi moms and dads,

My son will be 2 in a month and I would like to have a birthday party for him. I have thought about inviting a few friends to the apt and having some cake...but other than that I have no idea what else to do...can you offer some party ideas....

thank you,
stamcel

really, a party for this age is for you, not for the baby....the child will not remember it and may even be frightened by all of the attention or any of the "entertainment"...

have a few friends, eat cake, take photos... that's all you need to do.

have fun!

2 is too young to do too much. I say keep it simple. You could go swimming as a family or go somewhere you've never been as a family, then have close friends / grandparents over for food / cake / presents. Buy a fun kids CD and play music. You could have simple balloons or hats in his favorite colors, sing a long, take pictures and just spend some quality time just with the people that matte most to him. Maybe in a year or two, you can have parties with his school friends & themes. It doesn't take much to impress a 2 year old! Don't overdo yourself now when he can't remember. Save the elaborate parties for later.

It's a good idea if the party has a main concept. For example for my son's second birthday party, I chose his favorite anime character , and all the decorations were based on that.

When my son turned two, I got him helium balloons from the local florist. They weren't particularly amazing and had some generic flower or cartoon designs on them. I remember the look of wonder on his face when he stepped into the living room and saw them. I think that's all he remembers from his birthday (that, and the cake of course!), and that was enough to make him happy! Happy planning!
