Sitz Bath

hey shenzhenifer...
are you talking about the ones that have suction cups on the bottom and the baby sits it them?

if yes, i'll offer you a trade...
i'm looking for a little tikes-type race car bed. a regular twin size, not a toddler bed.

i've found them in hk but they are about $3700...i was wondering if there was anything similar on that side of the border?

it could even be a "made-to-order" bed as well...

if you coudl have a look around, i'd be happy to bring my baby's bathseat for you...

cara

ps> i've used it for two kids. each from the time they were 6 months-about 13 months or so.

No, sorry, the kind of bath I mean is one that fits over the toilet for us ladies after we've given birth, particularly if we've had an epesiotomy or torn.

I did the same as 'capital'. I had 4th degree the first and 3rd the second time, and even though it didn't cause any problems and healed very quickly. I would just sit in a little layer of water in the tub (keep top on) and clean and spray (ideally you would have a handshower as well). Worked just fine and not as much trouble as you think (you'll get used to it).

I just sat in a tub with warm shallow water and also used the peri bottle...I think adding something onto the toilette would be more trouble--and not as sanitary--if you are sharing the toilette with other family members--having to remove it each time. I tore a lot, lot, lot and had many internal and external stitches plus a ton of bruising and swelling--couldn't sit without an invalid ring for 2 weeks. I also recommend getting some Dermoplast--it's an antiseptic spray that is cooling and soothing and also a topical pain reliever--it came in my "mother's bag" from the hospital and was the one thing I found very helpful.

Thanks for all your advice. I think I will just stick with the bathtub, since that seems to be the easiest (and cheapest!).

MLBW - remind me never to ask about your birth story:) I'm getting nervous enough as it is!

Not any more unusual than anyone else's probably. Definitely not as bad as some that I've heard--bruising and tearing or an episiotomy are quite common actually--better to be mentally prepared though. ;) If you change your mind about my birth story--it will be in March's "The Parents' Journal" I think. :0)

I purchased sitz bath spray. It is an herbal mixture used to spray on the affected area rather than soaking since I had trouble finding the sitz bath that goes over the toilet here. I wound up needing an emergency caesarian and haven't used it. I bought this product: http://www.motherlove.com/product_sitz_spray.php

I'm willing to sell it at cost. Please send me a PM if you are interested.

Shenzhennifer, just thought I'd send some postive vibes your way.
I had 2 natural births. One baby 4kg the other 3.2kg.
No episiotomy or tearing, so no need for any of that stuff.

Semi-positive vibes here. My oldest 4kg+ (and 55 cm) and my twins 7kg combined with a breech baby B (feet first) ... 4th and 3rd degree but back to normal within days (hours with the twins), so even if you do tear, doesn't have to be really bad. Had a very quick and easy recovery.

you know... listening to you ladies, i'm kinda thankful i never experienced labour, never mind natural birth...LONG LIVE C-SECTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!

(just joking...my first was an emergency, and no choice with the second)
