Sick helper and working mum

What do you do if your helper is sick and you have to work?

Apart from bringing her to the doctor and ask her to rest, how do you cope with the household chores especially if you have a baby? Will you take days off from your office and do everything yourself?

Yes, my husband and I take turns having days off. I don't want her looking after my children when she is sick. I'm very fortunate that my helper has only been sick once in 8 years.

If your children are old enough, you can ask friends to take them for a playdate for the day. Leave the household chores for a few days and go out for dinner.

it depends on what kind of sick... there are times that my helper has had a cold, i've felt badly asking her to, but she had to work while i was working. i finish earlier in the afternoon, so when i get home (around 4pm), i care for the kids and take care of dinner. at those times, i've also told her not to worry about laundry & cleaning... she's supposed to turn the tv on for the kids, lie on the sofa and watch them play... not much else. on those days, i've also suggested she put both kids down for a "quiet time" at the same time to give herself a break.

i'm lucky, my helper doesn't get sick often... I'M the one in our house that is always sick... comes from working with so many kids in a week, i think.

ps> my husband works from home, so on the days my helper is sick, he tries to pick up some of the slack as well.
