School Lai See rules?

Out of curiousity are we suppose to give lai see to all of our kid's classmates, or just the ones they hang around/play with? Who else are we suppose to give them out to in school? And how much? Any help/guidance would be appreciated.
 
i would ONLY give to the children that your kids are good friends with. you can put $10 into each envelope or as much as you like. if your child has a best friend you might decide to give $100
 
ps. i just asked my husband if his parents ever gave lai see to his friends when he was at school. he said ONLY the ones he was very good friends with and that came round often.
 
i know when i used to teach in kindergartens that some parents gave us some and some didn't. i think that's up to you.

as for primary schools, i'm not even sure if they are allowed to accept it. but again, i'd say it's really up to you. if you do decide to give it to the teachers/assistants, i'd ONLY give to the ones that actually teach your child and not to just anyone you happen across at the school.

don't forget, you DO NOT give out lai see before the holidays... ONLY after.
 
I only give lai see packets to my children?s friends who actually come to my home during the holiday period. I don?t then make a distinction between the really good friends that I know well or the ones that I?ve met for the first time that day. It would be difficult to give to one child and not the next one standing with him.

I?ve never given to teachers or their assistants but I have given to my children?s tutors when they have been young and unmarried. At the moment the tutor my children have is considerably older than me and so it would be embarrassing to give a packet to him.

if there were two children standing in front of me and i knew one and not the other, i, too, would give to both.
 
IF (big IF) you give to teachers, how much would be considered appropriate? Don't want to give an amount deemed an insult (too small) or too much (considered a bribe).

For moms that have given lai sees to teachers, did they accept it?
 
when i was teaching, i received anywhere from $10 to $100... it's up to you, but i wouldn't go higher than that.(like i said before, i was teaching kindergarten, no idea if priamry school teachers are allowed to take it).

they won't consider it an insult. by the end of the day, i couldn't remember who'd given me which pocket.

if you are western, they'll be shocked to get it from you anyway.
