Sales Tax on Education Spending

>>基本民生需要?
>>則高收入家庭就會比低收入家庭受惠更多

contradiction:
基本民生需要 --> both poor and rich also need education

choose private school is not equal the buyers are rich,

it is just a choice that people vote against public school in market economy.
The tax system penalize people choosing private school.

>>則高收入家庭就會比低收入家庭受惠更多

rich people can also avoid your sales tax
by send their kids to public school or keep their kids at public schools to avoid your tax

Or send them overseas to avoid your sales tax

it just give more gov't protection/shelter to competitiveness on public school

In the end, private schools become harder to compete with public schools after the introduction of sales tax

I strongly wish that the sales tax do not cover education spending,
esp for school spending up to secondary level.

Anyone has information on sales tax policy on other major countries ?

Not so sure about education,
it seems that food items are not subject to sales tax as well

To penalize high income group,
they should use higher income tax rate,

instead of distort the price of products and services in the free market economy

In Canda Education is a provincial resposibility. There is a federal tax on all good and services, and all provinces except one also have their own tax on all goods and services. Virtually all children go to public schools. There are some private schools, but very few. Education is very very different in canada compared to hong kong. There is no worring about getting into the best school, and interviews, and worrying that if you don't get the right preschool, you won't get the right elementary school, then hgh school ect. It is just not set up that way at all. I don't know anyone who uses a private school so not sure about taxes, but I would think you pay tax, just as you do for everything in Canada.
