im considering buying a playpen as opposed to a baby cot.should i buy one?is it safe?my baby will be a newborn next yr.i would appreciate advise given by you.

Apart from safety, I would worry about you straining your back, esp as your baby gets older. Btw, my brother's daughter made a hole in her playpen and climbed out when she turned 1. With a cot, you can always adjust the height.

so cute, how clever is your neice..hehehehe
from 0 to 6 months, babies are allowed to sleep in playpens after which we have to lower down the mattress to almost floor level, which also worries me.i guess i just stick to a baby cot.thanks.any idea where i can get a good reliable ones?

Check out the baby magazines at the local newspaper stalls, or at Macdonald's. Find the ads for baby shops. Eugene Group is a big one with stores in several locations in HK.

I will be selling a 0/3 baby cot with mattress (for $600) in May or June if you still need it around then. It has 3 positions for height of the mattress.

if i buy a playpen to keep them in while i need to cook or something and it contains them in it.. i thought i could just let them sleep in it? is there a hidden danger or something? sorry i'm a bit confused.. aren't the sides high enough so that they would get out and i can leave them in there? especially when mine will get to crawling age and i may need to leave her along for 15-20minutes to do something at times.

Babies have a natural urge to crawl out. My niece made a hole in the playpen to crawl out and her mom threw it away. Before that, her mom thought the sides were high and soft so she couldn't crawl out. When my daughter was 8 or 10 months (can't remember), she crawled out of her cot with the help of the mosquito net hanging above it, when we discovered it she was crying with half of her body out of the cot, her hands clinging to the net and one leg out of the cot. I threw the net away and she could never crawl out of it again.
