Hi All

Im stuck giving the same food to my 18 month old and in desparate need of new recipes. Any one have any good recipes that have been a hit for your child?

Thanks

what do you eat? give your child the same thing....

pizza
sandwiches
roast
fish
spaghetti
cheesy eggplant (my two kids LOVE THIS! i make it without tomato sauce, similar to spaghetti house)
chicken cooked a zillion ways
chicken & eggplant curry (recipe is on geobaby somewhere)
steamed fish

Macaroni soup (made with chicken stock) with carrots and other veggies
Steamed egg with minced meat
Fish fingers
Spaghetti bolognese
Chicken a la king
Sweet and sour fish
Hamburger patties
Fried rice
Udon soup with veggies and meat

Actually, my LO likes marmite toast, almonds, bacon, pinenuts and gherkins. (Not always at the same time.)

I find dishes that are the right size for little fingers go down best (e.g. a chicken leg in the hand etc.)

I also bought a little fry pan so as to easily poach small amounts of meat and fish

* Salmon slices from the sashimi/sushi bar fried lightly in butter with avocado pieces
* A chicken leg browned, then poached with canned peaches or apricots
* Chicken shredded with mashed avocado and spread on toast or mini rice crackers
* Whole-wheat animal pasta shapes from M&S with Bolognese, or tuna and creamed corn
* Couscous with tomato, veges and little pieces of beef
* Little meatballs in a tomato sauce
* Steamed baby sweetcorn spears

Love all the recipes out of the Gina Ford Book of Weaning. A lot of them you can make for you as well. Favourites are:

Corn chowder with toast fingers
Minestrone soup with toast fingers
Moussaka
Baby bolognaise
Cottage pie
Chicken and sweet peppers
Chicken Oat Crumble.

My little one is not that good at feeding himself yet so he couldn't cope with a chicken drumstick by himself. The above can be blended or mashed depending on age of baby (from 9 months up).

PS agree with Cara - when we have a meal for us that is suitable for him as well then he has that - just chopped up a bit.

Agree with Starbucks2 & Carang, my children eat what we eat for dinner. We don't make special meals separately for them.

We do keep a stash of meals for him (mashed/chopped) frozen into ice cubes in the freezer and they are good for him for lunch. Also, because he eats his dinner at 5.30pm and we eat ours at 7pm - 8pm, dinner is not always ready by the time he has his. Love having the convenience of having some things ready in the freezer for defrosting if needed. Same goes for frozen fruit we can defrost for his oatmeal for breakfast.

I came across this great recipe today..... you could substitute the asparagus and tomatoes for vegetables your little one prefers.....easy for them to hold too!

Baby Frittatas (Makes 12 Baby Frittatas)

3 Large Eggs
2 Tbsp Milk
2 Tbsp Parmesan, grated
1/4 Cup Asparagus, diced
3 Sun Dried Tomatoes, packed in oil and diced

1. Preheat the oven 375 degrees.
2. Spray or grease mini muffin tins with oil or butter.
3. Whisk the eggs and milk together. Add the cheese, tomatoes and
vegetables.
4. Add a heaping tablespoon of egg/vegetable mixture to each muffin cup.
5. Bake for 12-14 minutes.
6. Cool and serve.

tonight:

beef & potato yellow (thai) curry
green string beans, eggplant with minced pork
garlic & corriander prawns

kids LOVED it!

tonight:
warm tomato couscous with roast rack of lamb

LO can have minced lamb in couscous tomorrow. For couscous, cook onions and garlic (optional) in olive oil until transparent and add some chopped carrots, courgettes or other veggies. Add 1 can chopped tomato and some olives (+ olive paste to taste) and cook. Stir in cous cous (you have to follow pack directions for quantity and may have to add more water or stock as necessary). The cous cous soaks up all the cooking liquid and is ready almost immediately.

Salt to taste (you may not need it if you've used olive paste). Great with lamb and roast chilli peppers (not for LO, obviously).
