Rumpus Room??

Hi there. I just went by to rumpus room to find out their New Year hours and found they were GONE!! When I took my kids there early this month, Ms. Tanya, the owner, told us she is moving in January but she has found a buyer for the business and that it will continue. Less than a month later, the place is being put up for new rental and now I'm stuck with all these pre-paid tickets!! Is there any way to contact them and get my money back as I do have a lot - I once forgot to bring tickets and I bought another set of them thinking they will be used....

I went there today as well to take my 11 month old to play - and found that they were closed ! They should take their website down !!!!!

Moms,

Tanya posted on the site last month that they're moving to South Africa. Also, a couple of weeks ago another Mom posted details on the toy sale they had. Sorry you missed it. I am surprised they didn't send out a letter to members informing them they were closing.

Rani,
Yeah, I called and talked to the owner of Rumpus Rooms early December and she herself told me that her family is moving to Sourth Africa. I am surprised she didn't offer to give money back for prepaid tickets. sorry to know that.

Rumpus rooms is closed for Christmas/New Year holidays since 16th of Dec. I am sure Rumpus rooms will have a good arrangement.

I also have 9 pre-paid tickets left. I feel that it is rather unfair of Rumpus Rooms/Tanya not to have given users much notice. Especially, as a lot of us (expats) would have been travelling over the festive period.......

Rani, I'm sorry I missed the toy sale infor as well - I was travelling a lot earlier this month and had I known for sure they will be gone, I would have asked Tanya to do something about those ticketst myself. I am just very dissapointed that when we saw her in early Dec, she has informed us of her move to South Africa but led us to believe that she has a buyer for the business and that the place would continue to be open, and she did not say anything about our pile of tickets we had in our hands when we were paying for the session. Or maybe she did not care because she was leaving Hong Kong.

too bad, i may have been interested in going partners with her for the business...possibly even buying it myself. oh well...

Yeah I'm right cheesed off too - myself and several friends have a lot of prepaid tickets and we're appalled we can't get the money back. How bl00dy rude!

The owner posted her e-mail address a while back in another thread. Perhaps those who have prepaid tickets can drop her a line and gently enquire as to how they can get their money back. Maybe she left HK in haste and didn't have a chance to tell everyone what to do about their prepaid tickets (certainly not ideal, but still possible).

I contacted the owner (Tanya) through a geobaby private message. She got back to me the next day and offered to post me a cheque for a full refund for my unused pre-paid tickets. She still has a few small toys left, so I arranged to go over to her apartment to buy a few things. Tanya then gave me my refund back in cash and I got some puzzles and books at bargain prices. If anyone still has pre-paid tickets that they have not been refunded for they should just contact Tanya via email or PM. I believe it was never her intention to rip people off, she's just relocating to South Africa.

Ridiculous way of doing business!!!! Rumpus Rooms has everyone's contact details, the very least is to thank patrons for their business, that they are closing down and what everyone should do with their prepaid cards.

Tanya did her best to sell the business and the new management sould have honoured all the pre-paid cards. Unfortunately things didn't go as she had hoped for as a result she has lost a significant amount of money.

It wasn't her intention to rip people off, and she did the best she could. She has refunded as many people as possible.

I would suggest we move on. Lots of businesses go under in HK.

'Going under' implies that a business was not profitable. If, as we are led to believe, RR was doing well, I feel Tanya could have handled this sudden move to SA much better.
As others have said, some of us may have been interested in taking over the business. Since time didn't allow a sale before they left, why could they have not organised the business to be managed and run in their abscence while a sale could be arranged?
Agree that there's no point in going over old ground and what's done is done, but let's all learn 'how not to run a business'. If anyone would like to set up RR2, I'm sure they could do a lot better.

True, it could have been handled better. We really don't know the reality if it was profitable or not. We're all speculating.

A shame all round really for Tanya and those who enjoyed Rumpus Rooms. Must have been a shock for her as I presume she thought she was in Hk for a long time or why set up the business???
