Rotarix vaccine

Hi

I have just been to the doctors for my baby's 2 month vaccinations and he gave me a leaflet for the Rotarix vaccination which is for diarrhea and sickness. I'm just wondering if this is necessary?? On one hand I would like my baby to develop her own immune system but at the same time I don't want to put her at risk. I would just like to know what other people have done and what they think?
 
I didn't get it for my LO. My health visitor thought that it would be more important for a baby with older siblings. I decided against it because the vaccine was only introduced the year my baby was born (2006). The previous vaccine for Rotavirus was withdrawn from the market as it was believed to be the cause of some babies getting an intestinal blockage. I preferred not to get a vaccination with so little track record.
 
yes, it's definitely important to get it as it is common amongst babies. my son got it twice in the US and then when we moved here another dose.
 
i didn't get my first son it as i had never heard of it - just thought it was a HK thing that he wouldn't pick up. Anyway, he did get it - it was horrible, he was so ill. I have a newborn now and i will 100% be getting the immunity as i do not want to see him also go through it. It really wasn't nice!
 
In Australia the rotavirus vaccine is given as part of the scheduled vaccinations at 2 months and 4 months. Therefore my Australian born baby had this vaccine.

As Portia says this is a new vacc and I believe that it has only been part of the Australian vacc schedule for a couple of years.

I believe the danger with rotavirus is that it causes diarrhea and very young babies become dangerously dehydrated very quickly.
