Registering baby's birth

Hi I was wondering if anyone can help. Myself and my husband are both British and have just had a baby girl here in HK. We have here Hong Kong birth certificate but do we need to register her at the British consulate in order to get her passport?
I'm just filling out the application and it asks if she was registered there, just wondering if this is a must or just a simple yes or no.

Many thanks for any advice : )

You can just apply for her passport using the correct form. However we opted to register our kids at the consulate and pay extra for a UK birth certificate. We felt a HK certificate might not be as helpful in years to come in the UK.

Same as newbiekt - there is no need to register the birth certificate but we did anyway - might be useful later in life. Quite expensive IIRC - $1500 or so?
