Recurrent Miscarriages/Any ob/gyn on the Kowloon island?

A bit distressed and worried. Can someone help? Thanks!

I have had 2 recurrent miscarriages and want to know the chances that another miscarriage is likely or if there are chances of having any children at all? Anyone with a similar experience?

Does anyone know of a very good ob/gyn on the Kowloon side who has experience with patients who have had recurrent miscarriages? I am looking
for an ob/gyn who takes out time for her patients, not someone who is $$$$-minded and looking for any reason to make money out of a consultation. Someone who can guide a new mom-to-be and is patient with tonnes of questions..

I don't know of anybody on Kowloon side but can suggest DR. Eric Lee in Prince's Building. I had a misscarriage and he was my doctor. He then discovered that I had a polyp which was preventing a healthy pregnancy. I had it removed and within 2 weeks became pregnant and am now approaching my due date! He sat down and gave me all the time I wanted to ask questions and explained everything to me. I think it was about 500 dollars per consultation. He has over 20 years experience and worked for many years in the NHS in the UK.

Anyone else who has had 2-3 miscarriages in a row who can share their experience. My gyn keeps saying is just nature's way of saying no. There is nothing she can do.
 
I have had several friends go through re-current miscarriages, and although it is not something I have had to face personally, I do have some understanding of some of the factors that may contribute, as I have Systemic Lupus, elements of which can be contributory factors towards miscarriage.
Before my husband and I began trying for a family, we did a lot of research into my situation, bc we wanted to try and head off any potentail problems before they arose. One thing we found out - most miscarriages are NOT caused by 'structural' problems, and will therefore not show up on a scan.
It sounds like you need to find out what the underlying problem is, and to do that, you are going to need a plethora of blood work. From what my friends have told me,their first steps were to have blood tests done to look out for basic imbalances in body chemistry, hormones etc.
For example - in my situation, I test positive for the Lupus Anti-Coagulant, which creates a higher risk of blood clots in the placenta and umbilical cord. Knowing that I had this condition before I became pregnant, meant that I could treat the problem early on, and (so far) things are going well. I know that the high risk unit for QMH routinely does full blood work after miscarriages - especially those that take place after the first trimester.
I would suggest two courses of action - first, get yourself referred to the high-risk unit at GMH, at least for an inital consultation. They may not be fancy, but they really know what they are talking about.
I would also recommend Dr Lucy Lord in Wanchai. She has good connections with QMH, and she referred me to see a leading UK specialist on recurrent miscarriage, whilst I was there on holiday. She has been very supportive, and has managed my condition without me having to do a lot of invasive/expensive/unneccesary testing

i'm sorry about your miscarriages. i suffered one in my second trimester (18 weeks). now i'm pregnant again, in my second trimester, and far better prepared. it really bothers me that your dr. said its just nature's way...that is unacceptable. you're right to look for another physician, one who will investigate the cause of your miscarriages. i have two, both of whom i recommend:
1) Queen Mary High Risk team. Dr WC Leung.
2) Dr Doo at Women's Center in Central Building is also very good. He co-cares for me with QMH, nice man, well regarded in med community.

Queen Mary is unbeatable for the price and level of care, but I must say if you can't wait around 2 hours for appointments and want tests done fast and direct access to your doctor, go to a private doctor (budget permitting).

I had 2 miscarriages last year and both of them were happened during the first trimester. Right now I am pregnant and is in my third trimester. My OB actually didnot do anything after my 2nd miscarriage since she didnot consider my case as recurrent miscarriage which technically should happen 3 or more than 3 times. Anyway I pray everyday that I will have a full-term pregnancy this time.

My recent OB is Dr. Wong at Causeway Bay. His consultation fee is $300 per visit which is much less than a lot of private doctors on the island side. I also go to Queen Mary Hospital where they do free prenatal check-ups. If you need more info, feel free to contact me.

By experience, I would strongly advise you to see Dr.Decker at 2973 0353 in Central. He is an excellent Chiropracticioner and can see if your miscarriages might be due to misalignment. Worth a try!
 
Try calling Dr Christine Choy in Central 2523 3007. She is a very caring very talented obstetrician/gynaecologist so she is very very busy but I am sure she will be happy to answer any questions and put your mind at rest or you can make an appointment to see her. Good luck and try not to worry (too much!)
 
Recurrent Miscarriage

QQuale, my ob also told me that she would not do any blood or hormone test till a third miscarriage becos accding to her all the above tests should be technically taken after a third miscarriage. She says structurally I am good inside and healthwise I look fine and so do my blood tests which she took at 6 and a half weeks. She did mention that there are many causes for a miscarraige but it seems she wants to look into it after if there is a third miscarriage. She gave me an option of having a chromosome test where they take a blood sample from both the husband and wife and tests the chromosome to see if both genetically are fine. However her price was ridiculously high... $2000 for each husband and wife...

But for my peace of mind I will consider to visit a High Risk team at the Queen Mary... coz I need to know the cause for this... I dont think I would be able to go through a 3rd miscarriage if it happens.. its quite devastating as it is...

As I am located on the Kowloon Side, has anyone dealt with high risk teams at St Theresa's or Baptist Hospital.. that would be more convenient for me than ob/gyn or hospitals on the Island.

Your last message was posted a couple of months ago so your situation may have changed now. As lonely and frightening as it is to suffer miscarriages, not all miscarriages are the result of physical or other problems. Sometimes it is just chance. I had two consecutive miscarriages, fell pregnant a third time and started bleeding at six weeks.

I panicked and was convinced I was about to miscarry and booked myself into hospital for a termination. I even sat and ate a jar full of mayonnaise to punish my baby for being so weak and myself for ever hoping that I could carry a baby to full term. And then I went to hospital and they gave me a scan. And I couldn't believe it: the baby had a heart beat and was doing fine. I am now 19 weeks pregnant in this third pregnancy and have been told i'm doing well.

So there may be something physical causing the miscarraiges, but then again there may not be. Chances are you're a perfectly healthy woman who is just having a hard time staying pregnant. When you do get pregnant again, which you will, my advice would be to have frequent monitoring, because this definitely helps.

Hi, I just had my second miscarriage.. and would like how to get referred to the QMH for tests? I am really interested to know as my hub and I would like to have our first child as soon as possible and believe me having gone thru 2 miscarriages I really wonder how many more it will take me before I can have children.. or is it God's plan that I dun end up being a mother! The ob/gyn just keep telling me that it is only after the 3rd miscarriage before they consider it a "recurrent" thing and will really carry out tests.. but honestly I dun want to go thru another miscarriage!
