Recommendation: pediatric dermatologist

Hihi, my son has red rashes/acne on his cheeks, his hairline, his chest and upper back. Not sure what they are and wondering if they contribute to his fussiness.

Does anyone have a good pediatric dermatologist to recommend?

Was recommended to see dr Barbara lam, called to make an appointment, was advised that her consultation will be hkd1800-2500, doesnt that sound a tad expensive? Let me know if I am wrong :)
 
Dr. Barbara Lam is quite expensive but she is excellent. Patient, caring, attentive and a great doctor. We've never gone to any other pediatrician so can't compare prices but I think she is worth every penny. She has been my kids' pediatrician from birth. Do you have your own pediatrician, why don't you consult him/her first?
 
You are not wrong.
I see nothing to indicate that DrLam is a dermatologist. She seems to be a very well qualified pediatrician.
I would not pay that kind of money to see a non-specialist.
I would say "keep looking", thats nutty pricing.
 
I think the first appointment for Dr Lam is $2000 but afterwards should be closer to $1200-1500. For more complex skin issues she would refer to Dr Henry Chan who is a dermatologist, so I would suggest seeing him.

We had our paed reccomend us a dermatalogist for a second opinion on bub's eczema. We went to Dr. Fung and were very happy with him. He explained what was happenning in detail, what we needed to do etc. His contact details are:

I am not sure what he charges because we paid by insurance card; but it is not more than hkd 1000 (our specialist limit). hkd 2500 is insane for a paed. these are usually expat rates - covered by insurance.

My theory for fees in Hong Kong:
Always keep in mind that the public hospital is fairly good and practically free, if you choose to wait in line (which can be long at times).

Other times, when you feel like paying:

IF:
- you are paying more than 250-500 for a dentist checkup, clean, filling
- you are paying more than 350-600 for a GP checkup and few basic pills
- you are paying more than 600-1000 for a specialist
Then chances are you are in Central or in a very top end Hospital, in a very nice building, sitting in nice leather couches, being served by secretaries with excellent English, drinking free tea or latte surrounded by people wearing designer clothing and accessories.
If you are paying this out of your own pocket, you could be paying a *lot* less.
If this is covered by your insurance, then you (or your company) could be paying a lot less for insurance.

Hong Kong private healthcare is actually very affordable if you ask, look and choose wisely.

(PS: Chances are, if you are paying those high rates mentioned above, you are also paying over 800 for a hair cut and over 2000 for hair color treatment :-) and drinking very nice coffee while being served )
