Our Paed recommended "Caring For Your Baby and Young Child" and we did refer to quite frequently when D was a baby.

can't beat Dr. Sears
Dr. Willam and his wife Martha Sears have 8 children and write a whole line of books. We mostly use the Baby Book (they also have The Fussy Baby Book, The Breastfeeding Book, Birth Book, Pregnancy Book, etc)
