i don't think you need a lawyer just to make a will. my husband and i made one last year- there's this website that guides you through how to do it. and all you have to do is have 2 witnesses sign the finished will and then keep it somewhere secure (we keep it in our safe at home).
we were going to look for a lawyer too but then a friend told us it's actually not necessary.
Thanks Zac, I think I'm still after an actual lawyer
I know you can do it yourself but in the worstcase scenario I don't want my relatives to have to work around some technicality or ambiguity because I didn't know what I was doing especially when there is a child involved, and there's also the international aspect as we're not from Hong Kong which could complicate things.
We had the legal guardianship Will done at Shaw & Ng (Tel: 2526 6767). Costs HKD1,600 in total. This Will shall be construed according to the laws of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. They actually have the "wax" thing on the original document and whatever we do, must not staple/clip or spoil the "wax" in anyway. Otherwise, there will be many queries, if , and if we need to bring the matter to High Court, only the original is valid.
