Hi all...

there is a possibility that I may take on a part time job. If this happens, I'm thinking that we might need to hire a part time helper to watch the kids for me. I know if I hired someone part time that they need to be a perm. HK resident.

My questions are:

For 2 children (5 year old, 1.5 year old), how much would they expect me to pay them? (Probably 4-5 hours/day, 5 days a week.)

Is there anything else that I have to pay for?

What should I know or look for when hiring helpers?

OR are there day cares or baby sitting services that anyone can recommend?

Is there anything else that I should know?

thanks!

A part-timer is paid an hourly rate, normally $60+, especially if you are leaving two children with her. You should also pay their transportation to and from your home.

Western babysitters (hired through rent a mum etc) will cost $150+ an hour.

It doesn't sound like you have a helper already. Have you considered getting one? It will work out a lot cheaper than hiring a part timer for as many hours as you are talking with all the added benefits of being able to go out on a whim, particularly at night. Full timers also have more of a reason to do the right thing by you and your children. Part timers, in my experience, are used to temporary employment and don't invest much emotion into the job. Not good when it comes to looking after your little ones.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, hiring a full time helper is not an option for us right now.

Thanks,
