To my understanding, anyone who wants to give birth at QM will need to have all the antenatal check ups done at Tsan Yuk, right? Does anyone know why that is? Do they not have a ob/gyn department at QM?

Yes u r right. For QMC u need to visit tsan yuk for your antenatal check ups.

Tsan Yuk is a subsidiary of Queen Mary so antenatal checkups are done there.

You will have routine prenatal checkups at Tsan Yuk. You will only be sent to the Queen Mary Obstetrics Department if you have problems, need more frequent monitoring or are considered high risk. Of course, you will deliver the baby at Queen Mary. I have had two children already at Queen Mary and am currently pregnant with my third and registered to deliver there again in late June/July.
 
Thanks guys, would be great to hear if they let you know & how thorough the 20 week scan is! I am considering a private scan after my 16.5wk appointment to find out sex as I'm super impatient ??????
 
They do let you know the sex if you ask and it is thorough. You will have to pay for a picture though, and they'll only give you one. No filming is allowed and you won't get a DVD. I had 3D/4D scans done privately for all three children between about 26 and 30 weeks I think. That was great. The last one was with Annerley Midwives and they were wonderful.
If you really can't wait then you could get the scan done earlier privately.
