Dear Mums!

Any pregnant woman is welcome to share the vitamins/pre-natal vitamins you are taking, and your diet. Here's mine I'd like to share with you:
I am 23 wks!

Vitamins:
Starting from 7 Wk: Folic Acid
Starting from 11 wk: Pre-Natal Vitamin with Folic Acid
Starting from 19wk: Folic Acid, Pre-natal Vitamin, Calcium supplement+Vit D
Starting from 22wk: all of the above + Omega 3

Diet:
Starting 7wk: 2 bottles of milk everyday, + 1apple + a lot of green!
Starting from 23wk: All of the above, Ham and cheese sandwich with brown bread, 1 plain yoghurt, one sizzling steak per week, and also cut down a lot of carbohydrates as I felt I am getting fat!

Allergies: I am allergic to all seafood, especially fish, therefore I am taking Omega 3 as supplement. I got them from boots in Ireland.

Please share all of you. When I am back on the chips:tmi I'll update you.

you need carbs just as much when you are preggers... you are not supposed to cut ANYTHING out...they baby needs a mix of it all.. you are NOT fat, you ARE pregnant. there are bound to be body changes!

It's recomended to start taking folic acid even before you get pregnant, i.e. when you start trying to concieve, and then to continue taking it until 12 weeks.

Oooh, good subject..
So far today:
Coffee
Spring Onion bun
Cornflakes w/ milk and ground seed mix
Ovaltine
One pc of brown toast w/ marmalade
Breadcrumbed pork chop, potatoes and 2 pineapple rings
Orange
Mango pudding

It seems that's all so far... I'm predicting a large coffee and some sort of cake for a pre-dinner snack, then probably a little glass of wine instead of dinner as I'll be too tired when I get home.

Then my Materna pre-natal vit.

Is that bad?

Hi Carang,
Thanks for the advise. As I am Chinese so I tends to have too much carbo in my diet. I am just cutting down, instead of white bread I eat brown bread, instead of congi I have oat meal and cereal.

hi bekiboo44

Yeah I know about Folic Acid, but I was 4 wks pregnant when I found out I am pregnant so I can only take Folic Acid since 4 wks. Thanks it's very good info to know. =)

I actually read somewhere an article that advised all women of childbearing age to take folic acid wether they were trying to get pregnant or not, in case they got pregnant and didn't know for several weeks! Am pretty sure that's one extreme view though.

I didn't take folic acid until I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant. The way I see it, our Mothers never took it back then and we all turned out all right, so I don't think it's something we should worry about too much.

very true, but on the other hand spina bifida rates have dropped by over 20 per cent since grain products started being fortified with folate. So... not everyone turned out alright in the good ol' days. Keep taking that folate! :D

My OB says changing diet not worth it as baby is going to suck whatever it needs and leave you with the rest. Loosen up and try and enjoy your food (if you can and the indigestion doesn't riun every meal)! You will loose it all again (esp if breasfeeding) once baby is born.

True up to a point, but if you haven't eaten it yourself the baby can't suck it up. There are only a very few things it will actually take from your body (calcium is one, which is why you need lots extra if you don't want tooth/bone probs later). If you are only eating McDonalds for 9 months you are not likely to be providing your baby with a lot in the way of nutrients. I think it's worth making a few changes, without becoming obsessed by it all.

I see a dietician about my pregnancy diet as I am overweight. Here is what she recommends to me so that I will not gain weight but the baby will still have all ther correct nutrients:

Breakfast:
Water with lemon slices
1-2pcs egg white/ 20g lean meat
30 dry weight of oatmeal/ all bran/ weetabix/ red or brown rice congee (cooked using soup stock and shredded dark greens)
250g skimmed milk/ soymilk (no sugar type) + a slice of ginger

Morning Snack
water/ green tea with lemon or ginger slices

Lunch
As much veg as you like
60g cooked weight meat/fish/chicken + unlimited tofu
150g cooked weight of red rice/ whole grain/ brown rice/ potato/ taro/ beans

Afternoon snack
water
raw veg (unlimited) / cooked veg
diet yoghurt (100kcal per tub)/ skimed milk/ soymilk
1 pc fruit/ 1 bowl of corn/ potato/ yam/ chestnut

Dinner
Same as lunch
1 pc fruit (preferably orange for folic acid)

This diet is supposed to be best for you as it is providing ample nutrients to the baby and you will not get fat on it. It is NOT a diet for losing weight but something which helps you with pregnancy energy etc.

Also, always drink a glass of water BEFORE any meals.
