Preconception tests and dr referrals

A couple of quick questions to try to start understanding how all of this works in HK!

My husband and I plan to start trying for a baby and before we do I would like to have all the normal tests etc. Do ob/gyns in HK do preconception testing like this (I have been given some recommendations to Dr Lucy Lord?) including screening for things like being a carrier of the cystic fibrosis gene etc?

Do you need a referral from your GP to make an appointment with a specialist?

And would insurance (we have good maternity cover) be likely pay for the tests?

Thanks in advance! This is all very confusing....

chicken pox

btw, have you had chicken pox? if not, you may wish to get vaccination for chicken pox from clinics. costs around hkd350 per injection. you will need two injections. the second injection, one month after the first. and you are not supposed to get pregnant the first three months after completion the injections.

Usually don't need referral to see gynae. Read the insurance manual or better still phone them up or email them for answers. I find that insurance companies are quite quick with answers.

That's great - thanks for those responses! It all seems very confusing - even more so being in another country I guess :) I'll definitely look into the family planning clinic. Thanks!
