preconception preparation

it's our first time trying to conceive a baby. I'm wondering what preparation, if any, I should do before I conceive. I've heard of many stories (can't get a bed at a private hospital that you like, waitlist for a OB/GYN, etc.).

I currently don't have an OB/GYN that I go to. should I start to see one now? any suggestions (on the HK island)?

is it enough time to do all this after I am pregnant?

I don't think you need to book a doc before being pregnant- I think some of them are only pregnancy and fertility treatment reLated, for ex dr doo and Lucy lord so wouldn't be much point. Although it's prob a good idea to have a reg doc to Do all your usual check ups to Check that you are healthy.

A good starting point is writing down your period, how long is each cycle. If it's taking you a while to get pregnant, then you can consider going to a fertility specialist. They will look at you & your partner/husband's weight, diet, habits etc. It took me close to year trying to conceive when I decided to go to a dr. By all means, if you want to see a dr, then see one. But as the saying goes, if nothing is broke, there is nothing to fix.

I think there's be enough time to see and Ob/gyn and get a bed after you get pregnant. Anyway, technically, the private hospitals won't accept your booking before a certain stage (10 weeks) I think, though the docs might be able to put you on a list earlier (maybe 6 weeks).

You might consider doing some bloodwork before you conceive. Like you and your partner getting checked for the thalassaemia gene. When I got pregnant and tested, I found out I'm a thalassaemia minor, luckily my husband was tested next and didn't carry the gene.

thanks for the tips. i was just getting nervous since it sounds quite intense in HK with the limited space etc. good to know that there should be enough time to still plan everything when I am actually pregnant.

and yes, already been taking folic acid supplements for almost a year now and also have tracked my period for two years.

thanks!

There are quite a few apps to help you track your period and to remind you when you're ovulating.
Good luck and hope you get your :BFP: soon

Don't forget to buy some sexy lingerie too.
