Pre-school advice neeeded

We will be moving fron NYC to HK in the next couple of months. My 3 yo is currently in a great preschool here and I am looking for good preschool options for him. Do people usually live near the schools or is commute a non-issue? We are clueless about the whole process - the NYC process was quite daunting. Is HK similar? Please advise. We would like to live in a central location.

Most schools have a bus service. However, if you live in Mid-Levels and you decide on a preschool on the south side, the bus ride might be close to an hour. Also, you might want to think about primary (grade) schools too. The American school HKIS takes kids from 4 yrs old. Its located on the South Side.

Thanks for the info. I would love for my son to start at HKIS at 4, but what do we do from 3-4 yo? Also, is the application process as inane as what we have in NYC? Hopefully, we can secure a debenture with the package.

Location-wise, what is a nice area to set base for the next couple of years? My husband will be working in Central, I assume. I am pg with #2 at the moment.

am also american with a 2 1/2 year old daughter...my daughter will be attending Starters school in Sept. It is walking distance from where we live (wan chai) The application process is also very easy....have you checked out apts. yet? We are at the Convention Plaza Apts and it is great with so many amenities and 5 min from Central. I think you are going to love living in HKG! let me know if you need anything... good luck!
 
A debenture would certainly help. You may want to consider living on the South of the island then. Repulse Bay, South Bay, Shouson Hill or even Pok Fu Lam which is closer to Central.

Preschools in the area: Woodlands Repulse Bay or Pokfulam Panda, Southside Kindergarten, Tutor Time ( Tai Tam), Sunshine House
