Portable cot as a permanent cot

Hi

Any thoughts on whether it is OK to use a portable cot as a permanent cot for the Baby? My main concern is the mattress that comes with the portable cot and whether is it safe for the baby to sleep on all the time. Also will the Angelcare sound and movement monitor work under the mattress of a portable cot?

Your ideas and thoughts will be much appreciated.
Thank You

i think that it would be not a good idea for a few reasons (i'm guessing that by portabel cot, you are meaning a playpen):
1) would not be great for baby's sleep... ok for short term, such as a holiday, but not long term. would you like to sleep on that hard "matress"?
2)it will be VERY hard on your back as it is very long way down to put a baby who cannot sit/stand up. you will strain your back very easily.

I agree with Carang. Portable cots are not designed to be used long term. I don't even like to put my son in them for more than a couple of nights because even the expensive ones don't look that comfortable. I wouldn't risk it when there a cheap enough cots on the market if you are looking to save money.

Hi

We used portable cot as permanent cot for over 8 monthes.

To avoid the problem of matress being to hard, we bought a real matress cot that we put in the travel cot. ( our travel cot was a 60x120cm)
