I have been recently diagnosed with Polycystic ovaries. We have been trying for a baby but my periods are slightly irregular. My doctor had asked me to monitor my ovulation from 14th day using the ovulation kit..i didn that from the 14th day to 25th day to be on the safe side...but no results....Can anyone please advise till when should one continue doing the ovulation test?

you can keep going until you get your period but also bear in mind that with PCOS you may not ovulate every month.
I have severe PCOS and was getting my period every 65-77 days. and definitely not ovulating most months.
I have started on a strict low carb diet, increased exercise and Metformin. I have been on it for 2 months now and this month ovulated on day 20.
using ovulation predicator kits is very expensive. I have given up on them but when i noticed egg white cervical mucus I used one and it was positive. to save $$ try and use other methods for identifying ovulation as well.

Thanks Aussie Mum.
I got my HCG test for fallopian tubes done 3 months back and my periods have been regular since 2 cycles.Have heard that helps 'clear up' the system. This may sound stupid...but if i m getting my periods which means i m definitely ovulating right? This cycle too i tried with the ovulation kit but so far no luck..i also go by the cervical discharge and tested but no luck....had spoken to my doc..said may be the LH surge isn't high to be detected...i m so confused!!

Maybe you could make more tests, blood tests, at day 2, day 14, day 21... which are supposed to be important days in a regular cycle, as well as a scan, which could read how many follicles you have and their maturity. This would tell you more about your hormone levels than a "may be" from the doctor.
good luck !

Polycystic ovaries

did you get pregnant?
I have PCO amd have been on hormmone drugs to stimulate ovulation but they have been giving me ovearian cysts - very painful and worst around ovulation so it is painful to have sex - crazy!!!!!

Did the low carb and exercise work?

Anyone else got any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

I may have PCOS (some doctors say yes, some doctors say no)... anyway, the truth is that I don't seem to ovulate on my own.

I got pregnant in 3 occasions under Clomiphene. 1st time ended in miscarriage, 2nd time in PMP, and this 3rd time (under Clomiphene 150mg) baby finally seems to be fine. I am currently 30 weeks pregnant.

I didn't have much symptoms when I took Clomid the 1st 2 times. However, this last time, I was feeling pretty bad and dizzy after taking it. It also gave me some bad cramps that I thought was AF related.... Lucky that I got pregnant on the 2nd cycle under that medication.

I had PCOS two of the Gynae I visited told me ovulation kits won't work unless I use for 20 days in a month due to irregular ovulation. Got pregnant with Metformin for my 1st for 2nd naturally. For 1st ovulation kits did show time of ovualtion maybe because my cycle got regular with Metformin but for 2nd it did not show I ovulated even though I got pregnant the very same month.

I'm on clomiphene as well. Just mid way through my 3rd dose but not sure i can keep this going and work, look after our 3 and a half year old etc.

I had a 60-70+ day cycle. I increased exercise and began south beach diet (basically low carb) plus took metformin. Within 3 months my cycle was 28 days and I fell pregnant.

You may also go for a more "natural" approach, and try chinese medicine (herbalist or acupuncture). As they try to regulate you internally, the side effects are less than taking Clomiphene or other drugs.

I used to have very long and irregular cycles, but then started taking "Bai Feng Wan" (White Phoenix pills). It regulated my cycles to 3X days.

Hi aussie mum and HappyV

If you don't mind me asking, where you overweight prior to starting your regime?

Reason I ask is that I have recently been diagnosed with PCOS (cycles averaging 80-90 days) and have always eaten well (low carb) and exercise regularly. I am quite thin (170cm / 58kgs).

I have just started on metformin this month.

Given that I don't think there is much more I can do on the diet and exercise front, I am wondering whether you think adding the metformin may be enough to regulate my cycle?

I understand that heavy people often have success with ovulating through diet and exercise but am wondering what thin women with PCOS that already exercise/eat well can do to help themselves? (I have also started acupuncture).

Many thanks in advance!

PS Is there a fertility specialist that is very experienced with PCOS that anyone can recommend?

A friend of mine trying to conceive recommended this book called "Making Babies" by Sami David and Jill Blakeway. I've read it too. Highly recommend to everyone who wants to have a baby, or just want to learn know feminine body better.

Best of luck!

Same with me - always exercised regularly, eat low carbs etc. tried the drugs for six cycles and just had really bad ovarian cysts with them.

I'm on a give up time at the moment. Enough stress and waiting (been over two years now). Going back on the pill for the next few months. I've heard that when you stop taking it you can fall pregnant more easily (guess that's how it happened with my first).

Anyone else tried the same?

Hi,

I also found out that I have PCOS, but we did get pregnant and found out four weeks later that I had an early miscarriage. We want to keep trying but I dont want to keep pumping myself up with the hormone drugs and glucose pills..... i've read that entirely changing to a organic healthy diet can cure PCOS.....

Can anyone recommend a good GYN, I am not happy with the way mine dealt with the situation.....

Please PM me :)
