make a game of it, don't force him to sit down and learn.
buy the blocks with letters on them. when you are out, pick a letter and everytime you see it point it out. my son was pointing to all the "m"s he saw by the time he was 18 months or so... m&m candies, the m's all over mcdonald's on buses etc.
I bought the blocks long time ago. But all he does with them is to stack them up to make tall buildings, never really pays attention to the letters on the blocks.
Will try the pointing a letter a day trick. That seems to able to get his interest. thanks very much.
my son likes to match things so we have abc cards up on the wall and lowercase and uppercase letter set and we ask him to pick a letter from the sets and match it to the ones on the wall. he really loves this game. we also make the sounds of the letters and make up actions to go along, like M makes a Mmmm sound like Mmmmonkey! and then we act like monkeys : )
thanks wwg2102, my son loves starfall.com. that is very good to get his interest in learning. thanks.
will try all other tricks all of you have suggested (apart from the shaving cream one, coz i will go crazy if eventually he turns the whole place into a snowhouse.)
We purchased the Baby Enstien ABC and 123 DVD's which have lots of colour, music and other babies and kids. Worked a treat for our oldest DD but the younger one not so much as she wants to watch the same shows her big sister does!
Sorry, you may also want to look at www.getreadingright.com.au - look under parent resources which has printable simple games and hints for learning the letters or www.readingeggs.com.au it has fun games and the like for learning the letters.
