Hi everybody i am moving from China to Hong kong by August 2011. Pls advise schools ESF, AIS or Norwegian which is better . My son is 2005 born he will start grade one in Hong Kong.

Thanks

The AIS as in Australian International or American International?
Our son will be in a PIS within the ESF umbrella and we chose it over the Aussie International because of his age. He would have been one of the youngest versus one of the oldest. Norwegian seems nice. We thought about it but there is no follow on high school so since we were planning long term and knew how competitive each passing year gets, we decided for a through train school i.e. Grades 1 - 12/13.

If your son was born in 2005, in ESF, he'd be in P2 (it really depends on the month of the birth). The Aussie International which also follows year and month, has a different system. In the local HK system, he'd be in P1 this September.

2005 born are indeed currently in Yr 1 so for August 2011 you would be looking at Yr 2 in ESF. Places are not easy to get at all. Would advise to look into ESF's Corporate Surety Scheme.

it won't be so much as to which school is better, it will be a matter of which school has space. P1 places are notoriously difficult to come by! you better get a move on, most schools have already done their selections for the coming year!

really? when i was looking, NIS didn't have any space (my son was born in 2005)....things may have changed. but seriously, you need to get a move on. we eventually decided on making use of the local system.

AIS is not very popular so not too surprised they still have space. Wouldnt count on ESF Y2 spaces too much, but recommend the CSS. ESF would be my first choice for sure in terms of your choices unless I would be living in Tai Po maybe ...
