Places to stay in Macau?

We're planning a weekend in Macau in early June, does anyone have any recommendations for hotels?

* NOT Westin (too expensive)
* Not too far from city centre/main areas
* Not cheap and nasty

Last time we went we stayed in the Holiday Inn, which I remember as being quite nice, but that was before we had kids (now have an 18 month old) so I don't know how it compares to other hotels for family friendliness..?

If you have stayed somewhere in Macau that you enjoyed, can you share your review?

I'll also start a thread about Shenzhen :-)
 
we stayed at the Mandarin Oriental, we had mother-in-law with us at the time and our 20-month old....they were doing great deals on 2-bed suites on their website. It was nice becuase we could watch TV/eat in the evening in the lounge part of the suite and not disturb LO sleeping as it had doors separating.

It's a little dated, but they have a kids playroom and pool (and spa for you!). Is right in town.
 
I'm glad I was able to find this thread. We're planning a weekend getaway sometime mid of June. I'll be considering Mandarin Oriental for place to stay. Aside from this, anyone have other suggestion to stay in Macau? Thanks in advance :)
