Photographer for taking baby photos

I am looking for a professional photographer to take some photos for my 1 yr old baby. I like the natural style photo taking, eg. taking the photo in the park, on the grass and be able to capture the natural moments of the baby's smile ...etc.

Pls advise!!

We had family portraitures done by Radhika as well. She had them taken in a park and the photos came out absolutely gorgeous...especially my new born baby's photos. I can't thank her enough....

Photographer

My sweetheart has some pics taken by Danny. He has a good eye to capture the beauty, joy and fun of my sweetheart. So natural and fresh! The time is relax and happy. You can visit www.bigdanny.cc

Radhika Rao's photos are really great!! Thanks for all the info.

But i have come across another studio called www.momentsgallery.com. Anyone knows if they are good too? B/c they are much less expensive than Radhika.

Thanks very much for your advise!!

You may want to check if the price includes the negatives or do you have to order prints separately.

mybbwoo,
the two have different styles so it depends on what you are looking for. the moments gallery is more traditional portraiture. look at a lot of portfolios and go with what you really like, and also see if the photographer's personality will work well with yours/your child's. these things are expensive but they gain in value in their own way over the years!

Beware of Moments Gallery

:tantrum: I got sucked in by the the photographer at Moments Gallery. She offers a few free shots at Matilda hospital, but then tells you that you can redo them at her studio quoting only studio fee as the costs.

I thought her fee included everything but only after the photo session was done and I paid the studio fee, she told me I could only buy individual photos at her rates only (EXORBITANT!) I could not get the negatives and if I wanted them, each individual shot was charged at THREE times her largest print size rates! can you imagine the costs! I have only one photo to show for that experience that I used for my birth anouncement cards.

Precious moments taken of my baby at a week old and I can only get them if I pay near $10,000 HKD!

I find it somewhat dishonest to prey on mothers at their most vulnerable just after birth, somewhat like ambulance chasing small claims lawyers going to hospitals to find clients.

WOW!

We gave birth at the Adventist and they also have a photographer who comes in and takes pics of all the new babies. I can't remember the name of the studio, will have to check when I get home. They then give you a huge book of say 10 prints with cute oneliners with each pic. Ok, the photos aren't excellent but its a nice touch and its FREE with the maternity package! They also include an order form if you want additional prints.

Avoid Moments Gallery

It was all very misleading. The free photo she took at the Matilda weren't free at all. She took a few photos and you had to pay her high priced rates for prints of your few days old baby. The Matilda uses the photo on their website.

I know a few moms also annoyed by her misleading tactics and opportunistic arrangements she has going at the Matilda. I was so out of it from having had an emergency cesarian under general anesthetics. She tells me to go back to her studio to take the photos again as my baby had a rash. I just though she was being nice and giving me a chance to reshoot.

If I had known about the expense I was going to encounter in the photo session I would have shown up at the shoot with make-up and presentable and may have gone with my husband as well for a family portrait.

For all the high fees at the Matilda, you don't even go home with a print like you did at the Adventist.

my friend and i took photos ourselves with her digital camera. my hubby was there too! we had a good time doing it, but i've been really lazy and haven't finished the touch ups yet. i've attached some for you to see...

Katherine/hunhun,

Radhika Rao's photos look really good. May I know how much you paid for the photo shot?

I had Radhika take pictures for us a few weekends ago and despite her high rates, the pictures are very well done. Out of every 10, there are at least 8 good ones. I do think the extra charges of developing each picture (about HK$60 each!) and the flat-rate buy-out fee of HK$5000 (to get all the negatives) is very high. We are also getting Christmas cards made from the pictures (which I think is reasonable on a per card cost). However, I find Radhika rather curt and sometimes sarcastic in her emails, very different from her warm and smiling personality in person. Perhaps its her pregnancy hormones. Oh well.

Just starting out

Hi parents, I'm a baby photographer who is just starting out and while I may lack in professional baby experience I have taken many baby photographs of family and friends with their children as an amateur with success. You can take a look at some of my shots here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/maskofchina/sets/72157594566704088/

I can even give you some references from parents I've worked for here in Hong Kong.

While I don't have a studio (I'm a street/travel photographer mainly) I'd prefer to visit your family at your home or at a place of your choice: family outing, the park, hospital, etc for more comfortable and natural looking photos. Studio photography is too contrived, IMHO.

My prices won't be high since I'm just starting out and there will be no hidden costs. I'll even let you keep the digital files so you can send them to friends, print and frame from whichever shop you like (it's not expensive in Hong Kong!).

Please give me a shout if you are interested. Dezza

Hi!
For my son's first birthday, Dezza took our bub's shots! They were beautiful! You have to check him out! Some of our most beautiful pictures of bub are by Dezza! I am more than happy to provide a reference for him if anyone needs it. He is patient and definitely baby friendly.

Baby photo taking

I saw the ad posted on here and had a photo taking session with Derrick for my baby girl in January 2009. My girl had an enjoyable time at park and Derrick was very pleasant and patient to my girl which greatly helped to relief her anxiety for strangers. At the end we got about 50 photos with at least over half of them we think are very very cute and wonderful. We are glad we have picked him. It was worth for the price we have paid for.
