Photo Sheets for Cakes - Advice Please

Hi there! I'm planning to make my own cake for my child's birthday and get a readymade photo sheet made of edible icing sugar from somewhere to put on top - Apparently it's just a matter of taking an image or photo and then emailing it to them two days in advance. It will be an A4 size costing $100. Has anyone got any good tips for this - I've had friends who've had disasters with the whole experience - Our baking pan is round at home - apparently the machines only do square, so should I try to get a square pan, or cut the icing sheet when its ready? Will it melt quickly? If the party is at 4, what time would you advise picking up the sheet?

Hi I haven't done one, but a friend did n she said it's fairly easy. I have rectangle cake pans if u want to borrow one. Made a Lego cake last week for my son's bday. ;):missingto

Ask the store when you should pick up the sheet. I would try and have the cake ready in the morning, or even the night before and put it in the fridge/freezer.
 
Thanks Rani that's really kind, what size is your rectangle cake pan? We're having about 10 kids and accompanying adults so am hoping one pan should do..
 
We used the photo sheet for my son's birthday. It is really really thin and just tastes like edible paper on it's own. You need to have a layer of icing on your cake before putting it on. I would also have a spare tube of icing on hand because the sides/corners are very delicate and might tear, so you can cover up any imperfections with a fancy icing border.
 
Go to youtube and see some videos about the same so that you know the best way to do it yourself. For cake shape best thing would be to get a A4 size tin or bake 2 cakes, join them together and then cut them into A4 size. Don't mess with the icing sheet, trying to cut it may damage the image and you don't want that to happen for sure :)
