Persistent high fever

Hi,

I have an almost 3 year old who has been having a high fever for over a week. I've taken her to various doctors who cannot seem to find the cause for it - she's had her heart and chest checked and nothing seems to be wrong. She seems absolutely fine apart from the fever (good appetite, smiling, playful etc). The doctor is now recommending that she get more tests done at QMH to find the cause for it but he says that there are so many possibilities and it may takes days or weeks to figure out. Obviously, I don't want to subject my child to unnecessary tests, especially if they are invasive.

Has anyone else experienced this in their toddler?

no, but i would go with what the doctor says...health is more important than a few tests.... can't see the tests being too invasive...
 
And since it`s a public hospital I wouldn`t be suspicious of them just trying to make money with unnecessary tests.
Fever is an important symptom of...something, but best to find out what.
 
i would agree...they are extremely thorough at QMH. my daughter still goes for check ups (she's 19mths) because she was born with meconium aspiration and later at 11mths 1 seizure....they wanted to find out why a peak in temp could cause such a long seizure (30mins) - they have finally come down to the fact (after 2 EEGS) that she has this "shadow" in her brain that causes her to be susceptible to high fevers....it doesn't end there! they want to continue following up her case! sometimes I don't want to go...but then I think, it'd be nice for them to have a full record just in case....they are real professional there and EXTREMELY thorough!
 
yes agree totally they are excellent at Queen Mary and follow up the case also very very well right till their happy
 
yes... total agree. the fever might or might not be an indication of something important. it's best to get a thorough check done.
