i delivered my first born there last September. I was overdue for a week, tried everything including induced labor and still the cervix didn't dialate much so I asked if I could have a c-section and I got one. My husband was allowed to accompany me as soon as they wheeled me to the labor room and he was there holding my hand the entire process. He got to see and touch the baby when the doctor took him out so we shared that precious moment together which was very important to us. After the operation, i only needed pain killer for 2 days so I guess the doctor did a good job? I was a bit concerned having to share the ward with 7 women but it turned out great as we all chatted and comforted each other while we all waited. My doctor was a female. She was really nice. So as the nurses and helpers. After labor, I rested for one day then started breastfeeding in the baby's room. There were other mums in the room so I had to expose my breasts in front of 20 perfect strangers. It was a bit strange at first but I got used to it on day 2. There were a lot of preggers from mainland which created heavy work load and stress to the hospital staff so they were not always on good mood. I learned to ask for assistance when they are less busy. There were different classes each day -- how to bath the baby, breastfeeding, postnatal exercises etc... which were great. My family and friends had to observe the visiting hours if they wanted to see the baby but I could meet them outside the ward anytime. Overall it was a very positive experience. And I only paid $660.

Had my first one at the Adventist and #2 at Pamela Youde (PYNEH). Paid over $100K for #1 and only $350 for #2! Huge difference. In terms of accommodation, obviously the Adventist felt like a hotel stay; whereas at PYNEH, I shared a ward with other women. I was pleasantly surprised at the level of service and professionalism from the staff at PYNEH.
I had a 2-page (!) birth plan, which they followed (about 95% of it anyway). They gave in to my request to be in a private labor room. Apart from one 'Nazi' nurse who was a bit rude, my overall experience at PYNEH was quite positive. In terms of help with breastfeeding, they were GREAT! For about a month after I gave birth, I would get weekly calls from a nurse at PYNEH checking in on how I was doing, how baby was doing. At the baby check-ups, there was always a lactation specialist present who would spend time checking your latch, teach you various positions, explain and answer any questions you might have. Even though this was #2 for me, I learned plenty at PYNEH that was never explained to me while I was at the Adventist. In various ways, I felt that the doctors and nurses were more thorough at PYNEH than the ones at the Adventist -that's saying a lot as I was quite happy with my experience at the Adventist.

I handed over my birth plan at my last check-up (which also happened to be the same day that I was admitted on account of already being in labor!). Make sure you have at least 3 copies of your birth plan --one for the doctor at the check-up who will go through with you which points they can or cannot follow (bec. of hospital policies); another one for the attending doctor to go through; and another one that goes into your file so that the nursing staff are also aware of your wishes.
