Paediatrician in Central - and recommendations?

I need to decide on a paediatrician for my baby (who is due in 6 weeks).

My obstetrician is Dr Ghosh, but I am reluctant to use the paediatrician who practices with him (Thondup) as the wait is always very long whenever I am there and the kids look very distressed having to wait when they are sick.

I have heard Dr Chiu is good. Are there any other doctors that anyone recommends?

I need someone in Central.

Dr. Joseph Pang is very good, he is on the 9th Floor at Hing Wai Building, just above the Body Shop on Queen's Road, Central.

We see Dr Dannie Ting on the 19th in the same building. She's also at the Canossa Hospital out patient and baby clinic in the mornings. Getting an appt with her on the same day is relatively easy. She's very warm and doesn't over medicate.

I trust Dr. Leo Chan

Dr. Chan is very responsive even during holidays. He replies to email, phone calls etc. My son had fever last Christmas and I called him on Christmas eve. He called back within 15 minutes and taught me what to do.

Nurses there are experienced and nice too.

His clinic is at Mannings House, Centrak

The best paediatrician in town

Hi! For the past 7 years I have wasted lots of money on various cheaper or same priced doctors for my daughter, but only now I found the best one. He is worth his slightly higher fee, as he saves you tonnes in fees by giving you an action plan for self-help. Also, he is at all times available on pager and email, always calls back promptly, even when out of Hong Kong and even if he doesn't know you yet. No extra charge for telephone or email consultations. Only drawback is waiting time sometimes, but you can ring beforehand to ensure punctuality. His clinic is in Central Bldg, (Landmark) and he also practises at the Canossa Hospital (more expensive there).
Details: Dr. Alfred Tam, 8th Floor, 818 Central Bldg, 1 Pedder St, Tel: 2526 6332, pager 9737 8627. He is also the only one specialized in infant and child asthma and URT! You may give my name if you like. Good luck! :doctor:

Dr Chiu

Dr Richard Chiu is very nice, unbelievably patient and very knowledgeable. He's pretty new in the private sector, so he won't have a long queue to see him(yet). His clinic is in Melborne Plaza, Central.

Pediatrician

Hi, I tried two pediatricians before I found one that totally helped my son's eczema.
I previously went to Dr. Thondup. Nice man but he would answer his mobile and check his email/messages during our examination. And finally, the straw that broke the camels back was that he almost administered the wrong vaccination for my son. If it weren't for my original record keeping, that would've been terrible.
Finally, I found Dr. Yvonne Ou. She is accessible, smart, and solved my son's eczema problem.
I think she is the best!
She is in the Prince's Building and can be reached at 2824-0822. She is wonderful!

Birgit,

how much are the consultation if you don't mind my asking. i am due to give birth at the matilda in a few weeks, do you know if Dr Tam makes visits to the hospital for the first examination?

How do you find his persona? Is he a good listener and patient? I'v met some doctors here where it feels like the rush you in and out like its an assembly line!

Thanks!

When I gave birth to my daughter at Matilda, I had Dr. KN Chan as the peadiatrician to my daughter. Dr. Chan is living at Matilda and was recommended by Dr. Dawkins. I find Dr. Chan very patient, gentle and very knowledgeable. He really took time and explain things to me whenever I'm in doubt. I've learnt a lot from him over the past 2 years. He works in different clinics and I usually go to his clinic in Central. His Central clinic number is : 28776068 if you'd like to be in touch with him.

I want to take my child to a paediatrician in HK to consult about his height and weight. He is 2.7 years old and weighs 11kg (for the last 6 months), so really worried about his weight gain. He is a very picky eater (meal times are always a struggle) and his allergies to certain foods certainly do not help. I just want help on how I can make him eat better. I've done all the tricks in the books and none of them seem to work
would appreciate recommendations

Fully agree on Dr. Ou. Initially I found her a bit overwhelming (fast and loud speaking), then I realized that she really knows what she is doing and talking about, that's why the words are very strong and confident.

I recommend Dr.Rupal at IMI, if you don't mind to take alternative medicine.
She is Homeopath, and it does really work for my daughter. It is very helpful for our family which have an allergy history.

I SO TOTALLY AGREE ON YVONNE OU !
My baby was born 9 month ago in Matilda with dr Lord and after a very hard pregnancy in France (Amniosynthesis, several intrusives echos, MRI of the baby...) I arrived in HK 5 weeks before my due date (imagine my state of mind & my level of stress!).
Yvonne was there during my delivery and when my baby finally came out (27 hours after my induction) she has show the highest level of confidence, self control and professionalism I have ever seen. Not only she saved his life but she did it without alarming us. She explained what was happening at the same time and was really incredible.
Since then she has been great advice (lost of weight during the first weeks, colics) always with confidence and she is very nice to babies too wich is great. I saw 2 others when she was on holidays but I definitly go back to her.

Hi rani,
Do you mind sharing Dr Ting's contacts? I want to call and make an appointment. Is she available during weekends?
thanks,

thanks Rani!

I've also been recommended to Dr. Tanpa Thondup. Do you have any experience with him?

Anyone else wants to share their experience with me, all very welcome.

thanks

Is a pediatrician the only option?

Hi
I'm looking for a good GP in Central or close by.
Can anyone recommend one?
I've just come back from australia with a new baby.
It is rare to visit a pediatrician there, especially for general illness, such as fever and colds that I know a baby will get a lot of.
Unfortunately we do not have a company that covers our health cover so I am not so keen to pay a premium amount for a specialist to tell me that my baby needs panadol, if there is an option.
Can anyone recommend a good GP who is familiar with child health and is not quick to over medicate unneccesarily?
Or has the general experience been that GP's have been not good enough?

Good GP in Central

Hi Cinnomon,

Nice to meet you!! I came back from Australia as well. If you want a GP with Diploma in Child Health, I will recommend Dr Thomas Chan, used to be a resident MO in Canossa Hospital. He has his own clinic in Tak Shing House, Central year ago(phone number : 2973 0968), , and he's also from Australia. Dr Chan is very experienced and patient, and can call him from Canossa out-patient during holidays. BTW, how old is your baby? My kids are three years old and 8 months old.

Karen

My baby girl is almost 3 months old.
