hi,

my baby has an orange tongue. i know it sounds weird, but i'm not sure where it can possibly come from. any ideas? could it be a disease?
thanks for replies

How old is your baby? started solids yet? My baby had yellow/orange fingertips when I started her on solids, coz I had unwittingly given her too much pureed carrots and pumpkin.

she's 15 month ans on solids quite a while. the tongue still is orange, although i'm not feeding carrots at the moment.

There is an interesting thread on orange tongues here:

Orange tongue - Ear, Nose & Throat - MedHelp

A common element amongst a lot of these people with orange tongues seems to be taking antibiotics / having an infection - so perhaps it could be a sign of a fungal or bacterial imbalance in the body. People using new mouthwashes/toothpastes have also noticed it - again suggesting some kind of bacteria/fungus in their mouths was being killed off, allowing the orange growth instead.

It doesn't sound serious though, but might be indicative that your baby has some kind of infection or imbalance. Worth getting checked by a doctor (though no one on that particular thread seemed to get any help from their doctors or even from specialists!)

Not trying to worry you. Your baby's case might be something else entirely.

take care.
