Oct Expectant Buddies

Hi Sunrays,

I was there too, but didn't buy anything as we were so confused on which one to get. :burnout:

Which one did you get? i'm looking for the quinny as it looks light and easy to maneuver.

Hi Sunrays,

There is an official book for the Hypnobirthing course, including CD's which I have.
I've already read it twice, ( need to read it again before the day!) so you are welcome to borrow it for a bit.
It really gives you a different view of birth.

Cheers,

Matty.

Thanks for lunch on Friday girls, it was good to catch up.
I'll miss this Friday's as I have to open a new store that day. Matty, enjoy your trip home to Australia.

Sunrays, glad you enjoyed Ocean Centre. That's where I'm finding I'm getting most of my stuff too. Tell us which pram you got! Mama S, I'm also thinking of the Quinny {Zapp + Maxi Cosi} unless I get a Micralite from England.

XOX, {and everyone else} these are the instructions to the Wanchai 'sample' baby clothes shop, from my friend:
"take mtr to wan chai exit a3, cross the street to the export
shop the one with the yellow sign - the stuff at the
back is 10 dolllars each"
Let me know if you want to come over after work one day, near my lunch break {say before 2pm} and we can go and find it together.

I must admit if I had been shopping on my own I would still be walking around trying to decide which pram etc to get!! However my husband is great and likes coming to quick, logical decisions; hence the results!

I have no idea on prams and so referred to our expert...Matty!!I remember her talking about the Graco in Toys R us. It is inexpensive, light, easy to use and looks like it will do the job. At that price I don't mind getting another in a couple of years. It says you can only use it from 6 months, but it does recline....would you use it from birth Matty?? So that was our decision!

So, thanks for your valuable insights Matty. Do you have the name and author of that book...I'd like to get a copy. Thanks.

I won't be able to make it on Friday. Have a good lunch and I look forward to catching up when I return from the UK

Sunrays

Hi Sunrays,

Do you mind if i ask how much is it? i was exhausted and tired when i finally reach Toys R Us so i wasn't able to check on this Graco.

I kinda like the quinny for the maxi cosi carrier. I'm thinking how to transport the baby from the hospital to house, or if we're going out, so we want to have a carrier and a trolley at the same time. Gidget, where did you see the quinny, i haven't checked the price at B2B. Just been to ocean terminal.

Hi Mamas

The Graco is $998 which I thought was very reasonable. I think Matty said you can use it with the Maxi Cosy...have to ask her about that. I guess it is a different situation for me as I'll be using the car and I imagine I will use the Baby Bjorn in the beginning.

Good Luck!!

Hi Sunrays,

The Graco EDT or the slightly bigger Graco Citisport Cocoon ( comes with non carseat carrier) both recline completely so can be used from bith. I love them!
You can try the Maxi cosi and the EDT together at Bumps to Babes. They aren't 'official' accesories, but they do lock in very tight so whether you used this combo would be a personal choice.

They may not be the trendiest pram around, but after dragging them around HK for a few months you won't care.

I agree, they are also cheap enough that if in a years time you want to replace it with the even more magnificent (6 mths onwards) 4kg Maclaren Volo
you can.

Not sure if the Hypnobirthing book is available outside of the course.
It is published by The Mongan Institute, written by Marie Mongan ISBN 0757302661 if you want t have a look for it.
You might be able to get a copy from Annerley Midwives.

Cheers

Matty.:bump:

MamaS, In Ocean Terminal, they sell it at 0/3 baby collection.
Every time I pop in they seem to have some special or other on it, depending on colour, and so far I have found that it is cheapest there.

B2B and Mothercare and Wing On also sell them although not every store has a display model.

Enjoy your trip home to the UK Sunrays.

Hi Sunrays or Matty,

What model is that Gracco that you bought/recommend? so i can window shop again this weekend.

Hi Gidget,

I am now convinced that i don't like Quinny, yes, it's lightweight and fold small, but the baby can't recline, most of the moms i've spoke to said this feature is impt. Not to mention that there is no basket. Confusing :burnout:

Hi Little-bub,

I'm not going to the next meet up, can i have the address please so i can check it out, or we can go together if you're buying something too. You can email me. thanks.

Hi Matty,

I sent you a PM.

Hi mammaS,

Sorry have been busy over the past few days, I've had guests in town and I have a million and one things to do before I leave for the UK in 2 weeks!!

The shop that sells the card/paper and envelopes is on Gage Street, just of Aberdeen Street as you're coming down from the Mid-Levels.

I'm not sure if you speak Cantonese as it's useful when discussing the different options....

If you need my help, just let me know.

Cheers
Little-Bub

Thanks little-bub,

I'll go there to check it out. Is it just one paper shop on that street? name? right of left side?

How about the sticker that i can write my name and tel, where did you have it printed? the one at the back of your card. thanks for your help. :bighug

I know, why is there no 'perfect' pram!!!
I have bought it anyway!!! It came the closest to what I need. If I really hate it, at least I will have a good 'travel pram', I love the fact that I can actually take it on a plane with me, not just leave it at the gate.

The non reclining seat IS a big draw back, I will be using it with the Maxi Cosi on the frame until the baby can support it's own head. That comes with a sun shade / raincover etc, so will be like a 'carry cot' function, and will actually be pretty convenient that way for cab rides. Hopefully I will be using my sling for most other outings. {crossing fingers!!}

For the storage, there is a company on e bay I have found that do a bag designed to attach under it, so got that bit sorted.

It is not especially easy to fold either {although the shop assistant made it look easy!}, so I need to get a teddy so I can practice some more at home.
I promise not to complain to everyone if it drives me nuts as ! was forewarned.

That's great Gidget, i haven't bought any yet, still looking around. How much did you buy the set? I have a voucher for $2,500 for both, so i'm still considering it that i'm getting a big discount on quinny.

Hi Mama S. Great voucher!!!
I got it at 0/3 baby collection at Ocean Centre.
I wanted the black colour, which luckily was the only colour on sale, for $1490.
The Maxi Cosi was $1599.
