Oct Buddies Weekly Lunches

Hi CK,
I can't do this week, as I have work things going on, but I'll be back on board next week, with luck.
Perhaps we can go to your club by the pool {assorted typhoons not withstanding!}

How exciting for your scan Sunrays, hope he slips it into 3D mode again for you.
I didn't have the glucose test eithe. I asked about it, as it is done for everyone {as far as I can gather} in Australia but my obs said he only does it for high risk. I have urine tests every visit, which would pick up on it if I was at risk apparently.

I've been having 2 weekly check ups since 3rd trimester started, but it is just a regular check and scan, no 'special tests' have been going on.

Oh and enjoy that class tomorrow, be SURE to ask lot's of questions!!!

Hi Ladies,

No worries about tomorrow. Next week would be better for me now that I've had a better look at my schedule (my brain is running at half power these days!). Am I the only one who can't string a full sentence together these days?

Next Friday (18th @ HKFC) would be better for me as I have a doctor's appointment on the Thursday. Let me know and I can book a table.

Hi Girls,

Count me in for next Friday! Sorry that we couldn't get together this week. I've been busy getting baby 'stuff' organized...I've got the cot, wardrobe, pushchair, dresser and started antenatal classes last night ... It's like I might just have a baby after all of this is over.

Sunrays - I hope that you enjoyed the glimpse of your little one .. it's so reassuring. I had my glucose test at 28 weeks. It's a standard test in the US, but like Gidget said, if you are lower risk they might not do it. Do they check urine at every appt? If not, I'd request it just to be on the safe side.

I am now seeing my Dr. every two weeks (it was monthly up to my 32 week appointment).

Is anyone interested in having one of our 'pre-delivery meetings' in mid/late September at the Mandarin Oriental spa? I hear that their Shanghai pedicures are the best in town.

Have a great weekend!

hi, i'm new to the forums but also due in early oct. wondering if i could join one of your get togethers some time. it would be nice to meet other moms to be.

Hello Ladies,

I'll book a table for next Friday (18th @ 12.30) at Hong Kong Football Club in Sports Road (Coffee Shop on the second floor, outside) in the name of Anita. Please let me know who would like to attend and if there are any problems with the time. Please bear in mind that non-members can't pay in cash and that I'll have to sign for lunch (and then we can settle the bill among ourselves).

If you need directions, etc., just drop me a line.

Sunrays, i'll have the glucose test this weekend, doc says it's a routine, but not necessary if my urine test is OK, but since it's only $250, i'll go for it.
My last check up was at 29w, and doc says everything is well, so he will see me in 4 weeks time again. Don't know if he just doesn't like to see me, wants me to save cost, or it's really not a big deal to see him every two weeks yet.

Bets, i just remember i owe you the coupon, totally forgotten about it. You're so organize, i haven't bought a cot yet, only a big moses with wheels so i can just push it if i'm in the living room. No pushchair yet, i've bought an ergo baby carrier for infant. I don't know if that's enough for the meantime.

Anyone opting for cloth diaper? Or i'm the only one thinking of this difficult task. :burnout:

Gidget, i thought of your everytime i hold my bag  Take care.

Have a nice weekend (and shopping!) everyone.

Thansk CK, I'm in for Friday, I'll bring my bikini {kidding!!}

Mama S, I'll have to see this bag of yours!!
I got the Ergo carrier too. Have you worked out how to use it? I've been practicing with a teddy, looks like it might be a bit tricky to start off with, with the infant insert.

So just to recap, that's a tricky pram AND carrier I have now!!

Welcome Miaka, hope to meet you at Friday's lunch.

Bets you crack me up. YES I think you probably should have the baby, now you've gone to all that trouble!!!
Will the Mandarin be reopened before we give birth? I've only got 6 weeks to go!!! Arrggghhh.
I know it's been delayed. They are still open in Jardine House, but I hear that's a bit squeezy.
At any rate, I never say no to a pedicure.

Question?

Hi there!

Can anyone suggest a good alternative to the Allerhand bag? I want to have a nice, practical bag for baby's stuff but don't necessarily want something that has a 'name' on the front. It doesn't have to be a 'baby bag', just something that can hold everything. I already have a little separate changing mat and wipes holder.

Thanks,

CK

Oh Mama S, forgot to metnion I am having a go at cloth too. I have bought some different types of shaped AIO ones, that are like disposables to use. Not brave enough for the traditional type yet, maybe later!

CK, I'm not getting an actual 'nappy bag'. I'm on the look out for a cool tote from my usual fashion haunts in a wipe down fabrication, ideally with lot's of compartments. Saw one at Agnes B, for example, that I really liked. I quite like the bags at GOD as well.
I've already got the change mat and some wet bags etc to put inside it. Apparently it's good to get something with a long strap to wear across your body or a back pack, as you'll want to be able to have your hands free when carrying it.

Wow Bets you have been busy! Thanks for the tip on Eugene XOX and I went ( in T3...that's dedication to baby shopping for you!!) and were impressed at how much stuff they had. Got a few bits but will go back and just try and get everything as I'm getting fed up of shopping around now.

Was looking forward to the scan with Dr D but it didn't happen. He kept us waiting an hour and there was still a couple infront of us so we left! It would have been an hour and a half wait in the end and I found that a bit much, I don't wait that long at the hospital and I'm not paying a thing. Will see how check up goes on Tuesday and decide then if I'll go for a scan with a private Dr.

CK, the football club sounds good, but let me confirm next week.

Hi Miaka, hope to meet you soon.

Have a good weekend everyone,

Sunrays

Hi everyone,

Hope all is well.

CK - Please count me in for Friday's lunch too. My school holidays are nearly over, so won't be able to come to many more of them.

Miaka- welcome to the Oct. Mum's Group & looking forward to meeting you.

Ciao for now,
xox

Hi Everyone, I'm back!

Count me in for lunch at the FC this Friday.

I can't believe how different everyone's experience with tests is!
I had the glucose test with Dawkins (standard for all his patients) with a result of 4 which is supposedly great.
Then 1 week later when I (finally) registered with Tsan Yuk they insisted I do the test again, (because they do it differently supposedly) even though I am low risk with no other problems!
I asked about the urine tests and the doc said by the time it's present in your urine it's too late.

I politely told them to shove their glucose test.

See you Friday

Matty:burnout:

Yeah!! Looks like we have a good group of people for this Friday. Looking forward to catching up with everyone. The lift to the coffee shop is on the right after the reception desk so just go to the 2nd floor. Turn left, then right when you get out of the lift.

See you Friday....

CK

P.S. Please remember to turn your mobile to silent as there's a fine for it ringing inside the club.

Matty,
I had an appointment at Tsan Yuk and told them that my glucose test, done in US, was normal. As proof I promised to bring in the report. They agreed not to repeat the test. I'm also low risk, with no problems. So, I don't know why they asked you do it again. So, I'm glad you refuse it!

I also had a bit of dissapointment with a Tsan Yuk doctor who scared me by saying the baby looked too small while another doctor, the previous week, said the baby's size looked consistant with the assumed gestational period. So, I asked for an ultrasound. Now I am so worried and I hope it's this Tsan Yuk doctor's mistake. My original thought was that I would be "small" since my mom was small with her pregnancies.

Syl,

Who knows what Tsan Yuk's logic was with my glucose tests, I registered at 30 weeks, gave them copies of all my medical records, including the glucose test.
After spending hours there, they then proceeded to schedule 3 different appointments (all on different days within the same week of course!) one for a regular checkup, one for the glucose test, and one for an ultrasound.

I've told them I won't be having checkups with them and will continue seeing Dr Dawkins and will provide them with copies of my records, and I'll see them at QMH on delivery day!

It's not worth the frustration and stress. I actually found it quite upsetting dealing with them.
Try not to let them upset you over the size of the baby, there is a pretty big range of sizes which are considered normal, espescially if you are small too.
It's better to have a baby that will fit through your pelvis, rather than a10lb clunker that gets stuck and results in an emergency c-section!

Doctors blabla

Hey SyL,
During all my pregnancy, all doctors said "whow, what a big baby" (I was even worried that it would be "too big" for me and wouldn't get out ;-). 3 weeks before my due date, I started loosing weight and the baby also so my obstetrician, Dr Lord sent me to Dr Lam, a specialist in ante-natal care. He did me a doppler of my placenta to check if it was still working ok, it was working fina but at one moment he looked concerned (I HATE when they look concerned, it's so scary for us who can't read in their minds!) and started to asked me if I smoked during my pregnancy ("no") if I drank ("no") and finally said "well, it's going to be a very small baby but he looks completly fine, he's just going to be very small" (he repeated that 3 times, grrrrrrr). Finally my Sasha was 2.7kg for 46cm wich is quite small indeed but nothing scary. And he has enjoyed being oustide: He was eating so well to catch up that at 3 months he looked like a buddah !
So my word would be not to focus too much on what the doctors say: Eachone will have a different opinion regarding the exact same scan so pick one and listen only to himl not to the other. The main thing of course is that your baby is in good shape and so are you. Enjoy the end of your pregnancy and don't worry too much !
Take care,
Alex

ps: I'm not upset at all with dr Lam: He is a great dr and does great scan: For my actual pregnancy I went to him last month for the nuchal test and he was really kind (and managed to spot the sex at 12 weeks: It's a girl!)

Hi ladies, I am so looking forward to lunch today! Just to let you know, I might be a few minutes late due to an 11 a.m. yoga class - life is terribly hard.

Sunrays and XOX - I am glad you made it to Eugene group. Great dedication in T3. I've been there a couple of times on 'reconnaissance' missions. I think that my most successful trips there will be after the kid arrives (and I have a list and actually know what I need). SR - sorry you had to wait for Dawkins. I guess he's been busy the last few weeks while Dr. Sally Ferguson was on holiday. I look forward to hearing about your scan.

Gidget - I'll try to bring more info on the Mandarin's temporary location, etc. There is one technician who has comes highly recommended.

Anyone free for lunch on Friday?
Maybe some Tapas at Boca in Soho, nice little meals since our stomachs are all being squished down to nothing these days!

Cheers,
Matty.

Hi Matty and CelticKiwi,

I can't make it tomorrow trying to sort out my car, the curtains, the internet connection, the helper's room....does it ever end?? BUT I now have the cot up and her room does not look like an office anymore, progress!

Have a good lunch and we will catch up soon.

Sunrays
