NYC transplants - Pediatrician and OB/GYN recommendations?

We are moving "'home" this summer but will be living in NYC for the first time. As anyone who has lived in the US knows, the health care system is a royal pain in the neck. I will have decent insurance but am a bit concerned that if I wait until we get there to try and find doctors, I'll run into 2-3 month waits for initial appointments and/or have to sort through many that aren't accepting new patients as I try to get everything else in order. I would ideally like to go ahead and make appointments.

So...I would be most grateful for any recommendations for Pediatricians in Manhattan (downtown would be ideal but I'll start with anywhere in NYC) and also Pediatric Dentists and OB/GYNs (am not pregnant). Kids are now 2.3 and 6 mos.

I had a great experience with a pediatrician Michael DeFeo at NY downtown hospital. It's not a fancy place like tribeca peds (I had a bad experience with their office staff, however, their doctors get fabulous reviews) Dr. DeFeo is very no-nonsense but went the extra mile in researching some things for me and his nurse was also very kind.

OB/GYN I have no good recommendations. I had a great Women's Health Nurse practitioner, but I didn't care for her overseeing physician, who you have to see if things are beyond her scope of practice.

Also, if you are moving downtown i HIGHLY highly recommend joining the hudson park mothers group (HRP Mamas Google should help if you search that) a lively, welcoming community, great classifieds, tons of playgroups, etc.

Pediatricians - Drs. Bourne and Wells (I'm not sure Wells is taking new patients) on University Place just south of Union Sq. They take most insurance. Pediatric dentist - Dr. Michael King at 40th and Madison (does not take insurance, but most dentists in NYC do not). OB/GYN - unfortunately mine does not accept insurance. Good luck!
